SUES and Toronto Metropolitan University Strengthen Ties Through MoU Signing​

On May 15, Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) welcomed Cory Searcy, Assistant Vice-President of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Canada, along with his delegation. Vice President Xia Chunming hosted the guests at Conference Room 204 of the Administration Building, with representatives from International Office and School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in attendance.



Vice President Xia warmly greeted the delegation and provided an overview of SUES’ progress and recent accomplishments. He highlighted the University’s longstanding collaboration with Canadian institutions, noting that SUES’ industry-education integration model was initially inspired by Canadian partners before evolving into a practice-driven system tailored to the needs of Chinese students. Xia praised TMU’s strengths in urban campus development, industry clusters, and university-enterprise partnerships, expressing optimism that the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would pave the way for expanded cooperation—from academic exchanges to joint research and technology commercialization.

In response, Cory Searcy thanked SUES for its hospitality and commended the University’s educational achievements. He emphasized the alignment between TMU and SUES in academic vision and discipline offerings, noting TMU’s reputation among international students for its vibrant campus and high-quality education. Searcy expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration across multiple levels, with the goal of establishing an international innovation platform focused on applied learning and technological advancement.



The meeting culminated in the signing of the MoU by Vice President Xia and Assistant Vice-President Searcy, marking a significant step forward in the two institutions’ shared commitment to talent development and research innovation.

Following the discussions, the TMU delegation toured SUES’ laboratories to gain further insight into the University’s teaching and research infrastructure. With both institutions dedicated to fostering this partnership, the collaboration is poised to deliver meaningful outcomes and further elevate SUES’ global engagement.
