On July 13, the China University Students' Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition - 10th Material Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Finals, hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and jointly organized by its Heat Treatment Branch and SUES, was held on the Songjiang campus. A total of 568 teams from all over the country, with over 3,000 teachers and students, gathered to participate in this top-level event. Yu Tao, President of SUES, Xia Chunming, Vice President of SUES, Luo Ping, Executive Officer of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Xu Yueming, Chairman of the National Heat Treatment Society, and 66 experts from universities and industries across China attended the opening ceremony.
President Yu Tao extended a sincere welcome on behalf of SUES to all the experts and participating teachers and students. He noted that the Heat Treatment Society and SUES share a deep historical connection, as the first president of SUES' predecessor, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Electromechanical Branch, Zhou Zhihong, was one of the founders of the Heat Treatment Branch. Hosting this competition in 2024, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, holds special significance for SUES. He hopes that the participating teams will adhere to the principle of “applying knowledge to practice, reaching new heights” and fully showcase their innovative achievements, providing intellectual support for the advancement of heat treatment technology and the strategy of building a strong manufacturing nation.
Luo Ping, Executive Officer of CMES, pointed out that since 2015, the Competition has successfully been held nine times. It has made significant contributions to encouraging university students to stay abreast of the latest technological developments and inspiring them to actively engage in material heat treatment technology innovation and engineering applications. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the leaders of SUES, its various administrative departments, and School of Materials Science and Engineering for their hard work and contributions to the Competition.
Xu Yueming, Chairman of the National Heat Treatment Society, indicated that in recent years, the Competition has provided strong support in terms of a talented workforce for the high-quality development of the heat treatment industry and the construction of a strong manufacturing nation. He expected the contestants to embrace challenges, be courageous in innovation, strive for excellence, and fully demonstrate their professional strength and creativity during the competition.

In 2024, a total of 1,598 teams signed up for the Competition, with the participation of 208 universities and a total of 6,373 competitors, setting a new historical high.
