From November 29th to December 1st, the 2024 National University Simulated Flight Championship, themed Pursuing a Dream of a Century, Building a Country of Aviation Powers, was held in Huangshan. The event brought together over 300 elite aviation talents from 15 top domestic flight universities, including Beihang University, Civil Aviation University of China, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Air Force Aviation University, to compete for the top honors in simulated flight technology. School of Air Transportation (School of Flying) of Shanghai University of Engineering Science sent a team of 10 participants. After multiple rounds of games, SUES team won 3 gold medals, 8 national first prizes, and 4 national second prizes across 14 categories, a record-breaking achievement in history of the University!
During the three-day competition, participants competed in flight skills from both civil and military aviation sectors. The competition design fully considered the training requirements of the Civil Aviation Administration of China for enhancing pilots’ nine core competencies. By setting up 14 competition items such as crosswind take-off and landing routes, VOR/DME approaches, and engine failure returns, it comprehensively assessed participants’ basic flight skills, information management abilities, situation awareness maintenance, manual flight path control, workload management, and problem-solving abilities in emergencies, all while being close to real-world scenarios.
As a top event in the field of aviation science and technology sports among domestic universities, the National University Simulated Flight Championship provides a platform for participating students to compete and exchange flight skills, stimulates their patriotic feelings, and promotes the vigorous development of China’s aviation industry.
