On the morning of September 27th, the opening ceremony for the 2021 freshmen was held at the East Stadium of Songjiang Campus. 6,716 freshmen gathered together to welcome the upcoming new journey of life. SUES leaders and faculty representatives attended the opening ceremony. An alumni representative, Yan Jun, who is Deputy Secretary, Director and President of the Party Committee of Shanghai International Port (Group) attended the opening ceremony as a special guest. Zhu Xiaoqing, deputy secretary of SUES party committee and vice president, presided over the ceremony.
The opening ceremony kicked off with the solemn National Anthem.
Li Jiang, secretary of the SUES Party committee, presented “red books” to the freshmen representatives to encourage students to have lofty ideals, strengthen their ideals and convictions from the deeds and spirits of national heroes, and show the outstanding demeanor of college students.
President Yu Tao put forward three requirements and hopes to the freshmen. Firstly, students should be high-minded, set great ambitions, have great virtues, become talents, assume great responsibilities, and have a great mind in the country. Secondly, students should be diligent, learn how to learn, maintain tenacity, unite knowledge and action, and persist in lifelong learning. Thirdly, students should pursue excellence, become a self-reliant, self-disciplined, and tolerant person, achieve all-round development, and strive to become a talent who can take the task of national rejuvenation.
Alumni representative Yan Jun used his own experience to encourage students to love our motherland, do physical exercises, be kind to others, read books, and become pillars of the country.
Liu Zhigang, who is the representative of mentors and the dean of the School of Urban Railway Transportation, encouraged the students to study hard, think independently, surpass themselves, and move forward.
Chunyan Zhang, who is a freshman representative and a graduate student of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, said that he would actively integrate into his future study and life, adapt to the new role, stick to his beliefs to be a good SUES student.
As a representative of senior students, Ma Mingzi, a student of the School of Management Studies, who won the title of Shanghai University Honor Students of the Year in 2020. He used his own struggle story to encourage students to strengthen their ideals and beliefs, cultivate patriotic feelings, cultivate strong skills, and continue to explore the unknown world.
The executive chairman of Student Union, Wang Guqin from the School of Foreign Languages led the freshmen to take the oath.
At the end of the ceremony, all teachers and students sang the SUES song together, and the huge national flag and SUES flag were passed in the hands of the students. They ignited their hopes and let their dreams fly. They will achieve the most beautiful life at SUES.
