Recently, Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation has officially issued a document, approving the preparation for the establishment of five Shanghai product quality inspection and testing centers. The Shanghai High-Energy Beam Manufacturing Product Quality Inspection and Testing Center, which was jointly applied for by School of Materials Science and Engineering of SUES, has been selected. This marks a key breakthrough in the construction of a high-end quality inspection and testing platform in the field of high-energy beam manufacturing of the university.
This approval is a vital practical achievement of the university's in-depth alignment with the modernized industrial layouts of Shanghai and Songjiang District, as well as a solid effort to support the high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. Since the preparation work was launched in 2022, School of Materials Science and Engineering has steadily advanced all preparation work for the center by relying on the mature laboratory in the university that holds both CNAS and CMA qualifications. The research directions of the center are precisely focused on three core areas: high-energy beam connected components, additive manufacturing components, and surface modification components. Its testing services fully cover key national strategic industries including aerospace, automotive, marine engineering and shipbuilding, nuclear energy and nuclear power, railway transportation, and high-end intelligent manufacturing.
Drawing on years of technical accumulation, the School has formed a complete technical system in the field of reliability testing and analysis for high-energy beam manufacturing materials and components. It has successively undertaken a number of national-level special tasks for high-energy beam manufacturing quality inspection, and has built up solid professional technical strength and a high-level talent team, which has laid a solid foundation for the application and implementation of the center. During the preparation period, the center passed on-site review and demonstration at the Songjiang District level and the municipal level in June 2025 and December 2025 respectively. In July 2026, the official municipal approval document was issued, and the center has fully entered the substantive preparation stage.

In the next step, the School of Materials Science and Engineering will strictly follow the rectification and improvement opinions put forward by the review panel, continuously improve the standardized testing technical system, optimize the construction of a high-level professional talent echelon, and solidly complete the acceptance work after the preparation period. After the center is completed and put into operation, it will effectively enhance the high-end testing service capacity and independent innovation level in the Yangtze River Delta region, and provide solid technical support for high-quality economic and social development.
