Three-Peat! Professor Liu Xiang Guides Contestant to Gold in Cloud Computing at the 48th WorldSkills Competition

On the evening of September 27, the 48th WorldSkills Competition drew to a close in Shanghai. Yin Zhiwei, guided by Professor Liu Xiang from School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, won the gold medal in the Cloud Computing event, achieving a “three-peat” of gold medals for this event at the WorldSkills Competition and writing a new chapter in China’s history in the information and communication technology field at the WorldSkills Competition.

This year’s Cloud Computing event brought together top contestants from more than ten countries and regions to compete on the same stage. The event tested contestants’ comprehensive practical abilities, requiring them to deploy software service systems on the cloud on site, respond at any time to network access and attacks, and promptly troubleshoot system failures, placing extremely high demands on technical proficiency, on-the-spot adaptability, and stress resistance.

During the preparation period, Professor Liu Xiang led the team in carefully refining the training plan, focusing on the contestants’ all-round development. In terms of professional ability, he guided the contestant to delve into the underlying principles of cloud computing, enabling the contestant to master operational skills while fully understanding their internal logic, thereby consolidating both theoretical and practical foundations; closely following the frontier development direction of the industry and centering on the field of artificial intelligence, the team focused on enhancing the contestant’s practical application ability in large model technology. At the same time, the team attached importance to the contestants’ physical and mental development, arranging systematic physical training to help the contestant adapt to the high-intensity rhythm of the competition, and providing psychological counseling and state regulation, comprehensively improving the contestant’s overall qualities from multiple dimensions including technology, physique, and mindset.

Since Professor Liu Xiang became the leader of the Chinese expert group for technical guidance in the Cloud Computing event of the WorldSkills Competition in 2021, China’s WorldSkills Competition results in cloud computing have continued to make breakthroughs: the 2022 WorldSkills Competition Special Edition achieved the first gold medal in this event, the 47th WorldSkills Competition in 2024 successfully defended the title, and the 48th WorldSkills Competition in 2026 once again won gold, achieving a “three-peat” of excellent results in this event.
