SUES men’s basketball team defends the championship of 2014 Shanghai College Students Elite Basketball Tournament

On June 5, the closing ceremony and finals for the seventh "DBA • Fmaker Cup" Elite Basketball Championship for Shanghai College Students was held in the gym of SUES. Sponsored by Shanghai Education Committee, "DBA • Fmaker Cup" Elite Basketball Championship for Shanghai College Students was undertaken by Shanghai Jiaotong University, SUES, Joint Secretariat of Shanghai Student Sports Association, and Basketball Branch of Shanghai Sports Association for College Students. The sports event is to build a platform for college students to display their basketball skills, cultivate their unity and endeavor in basketball playing, vigorously popularize the basketball game, and enrich the sports culture on college campus.  

The participants of this event included a total of 16 teams from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Donghua University, Shanghai No.2 Polytechnic University, etc. After a fierce competition lasting nearly one month, the final was held between SUES and Fudan University, during which the former beat the latter by a big margin of   

56：36, successfully defending the championship. Fudan University, Shanghai University of Foreign Trade and Finance and Shanghai Maritime University respectively won the second, third and fourth places. Prizes were awarded to the winners after the final by Shen Youwei, vice secretary of Joint Secretariat of Shanghai Student Sports Association, Mao Lijuan, chief of Department of Physical Education of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xie Ming, party secretary and chief of SUSE department of physical education, and Sun Shaorui, CEO of Shanghai Fmaker Culture Media Co., Ltd.

In the final game, SUES dominated the game by repeatedly using projecting points and picking and rolling with 11:7 in the first quarter. The edge was maintained by SUES in the second quarter with a score of 26:12. During the second half, SUES widened the lead by a whopping 10:1, ending the third quarter with a clinching 43:18. In the final quarter, the home team still maintained its leading position, with the whole audience screaming “champion, champion, champion” during the last ten seconds. The whole gym roared with enthusiasm at the whistle of the end of the game as SUES won the victory with a remarkable margin of 56:36.

2014 "DBA • Fmaker Cup" Elite Basketball Championship for Shanghai College Students drew to a successful end, during which SUES performed well in both offense and defense and the gym was packed with viewers loudly cheering on the players. This is also the first time that SUES non-professional men’s basketball team has retained the championship, reflecting SUES students’tenacity, courage and initiative, inspiring the enthusiastic dedication of more SUES students to the basketball game, and vigorously promoting the development of campus sports culture.
