The studio team members are composed of IFA teachers and senior pattern makers and sample makers of top brands. The studio focuses on the digitalization of haute couture pattern data, the transformation of haute couture into ready-to-wear, the comparison between French draping and pattern making and has been supporting enterprises in research and development. The studio has carried out pattern maker training, designer training, fabric motif design, pop fashion design, innovative experiment research, and provided guidance for students to participate in fashion competitions.

Commissioned by Jiading Museum in 2012, the studio studied and reproduced the evening suit that Wellington Koo, one of the first generation diplomats of China, wore in the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. The suit with history of nearly a hundred years was a present from the United Nations. In order to preserve the precious relic properly, Jiading Museum decided to entrust IFA’s Haute Couture Pattern Making Studio with the reproduction work after repeated selection. The studies and reproduction has been successfully completed and passed the appraisal of the expert group. Through this project, IFA has made a breakthrough in the studies on European hand embroidery techniques, the construction of haute couture men’s evening suit and the history and development of haute couture, and also established its academic status in the field of historic haute couture research.
