On the morning of May 11, the 6th National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition Shanghai Area Selection and the 3rd Mechanical Engineering Innovation Competition for College Students in Shanghai were unveiled in Shanghai Polytechnic University. SUES school of mechanical engineering, which participated in the Shanghai Area selection match, won one first prize, one second prize and two third prizes out of its six works after display of works, questioning by judges on the site, and discussion by panel of judges. “Musical score learning machines and tools based on belt driven principle”, the first prize won by SUES school of mechanical engineering was simultaneously recommended to enter the National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition for College Students. The winning work is intended for teaching music to kids, and can also be used for learning tool in mechanical teaching. The device can identify the designated “musical notations” through belt driven feed system and wireless radio frequency so as to enhance students’ interest in learning music. This creation has been acclaimed by many due to its novelty and practicality. This competition was sponsored by the organization committee of National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition for College Students and direction committee of Ministry of Education for Higher Education Mechanical Foundation Course Teaching, and undertaken by Shanghai Polytechnic University. With the theme of “fantasy dream classroom” and the content of “design and manufacturing of equipment and teaching device in classroom”, college students figured out creative ideas and methods and improved teaching equipment and devices, thus benefiting both teaching and learning. A total of 112 works from 15 universities in Shanghai entered the competition, with 55 of them winning prizes, of which 16 first prizes, 17 second prizes and 22 third prizes. The competition is intended to promote an emphasis on cultivating the innovative design capability of college students in university teaching, on developing comprehensive design ability and team spirit, on strengthening the training of students’ manual skills and engineering practice, on enhancing students’ practical ability to carry out mechanical innovation, design and manufacturing based on practical requirements, and attract and encourage more students to be actively involved in extracurricular technical activities. In the contest, the competing teams enhanced their practical abilities by learning from each other, fully displaying the youthful spirit of vigor, unity, and creativity. |
