On the morning of June 19, Prof. Yang Huayong, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, expert in the field of fluid power transmission and control, and director of Zhejiang University's National Electro-hydraulic Control Engineering Technology Research Center paid an exchange visit to SUES at its invitation. The exchange meeting was attended by SUES Party Secretary Teng Jianyong, SUES Party Office Chief Wang Chen, Chief of Department of Research and Development, Chen Sihao, Secretary of Rail Transit Security Detection and Assessment Service Center (hereinafter referred to as “rail center”), Chief of School of Urban Rail Transportation, Chai Xiaodong, vice secretary of “rail center”, and Liu Muzhong, Party Secretary of School of Urban Rail Transportation. At the exchange meeting, Teng Jianyong extended his welcome to Prof. Yang Huayong, and introduced to him the past and present of SUES and its achievements. Also Teng expressed his gratitude to Yang for his generous support to the rail center and awarded the certificate of engagement of top consultant to Yang on behalf of SUES. Prof. Yang spoke highly of SUES’s development and appreciated the trust of SUES and the rail center, indicating that he would do his utmost to support the work of the “rail center” in the future. After the meeting, accompanied by the leaders of School of Urban Rail Transportation, Prof. Yang inspected the office and research site of the rail school, praising the operation mode of the rail center and the initial accomplishments, and nourishing great expectations about the future development of the rail center. In the afternoon, Prof. Yang delivered a lecture entitled “Development and prospects of large full face tunnel boring equipment” to students and teachers in Room 506 in the administrative building. At the beginning of his lecture, Prof. Yang made an introduction to the main functions, the structure, and principle of tunnel boring equipment-shield by showing a video clip which details the working process of the shield and analyzes its main technical difficulties. As a large-scale piece of equipment in tunnel excavation, the shield, which is widely used in the construction of urban rail transportation, and involves an integration of geology, civil engineering, mechanics, material, and control, has long been monopolized by in terms of its technology. Prof. Yang has, since 1998, launched a study of unit technology of the shield structure, and developed full set of shield starting from 2002 with the support of several 863 projects. Under the support of project 973, he achieved an innovation in the development of the shield in 2007 by carrying out effective research into the three difficulties of “instability, failure and misalignment” in the field structure, publishing more than 80 research papers and obtaining more than 70 authorized patents, thus significantly improving the stability and adaptability of the shield structure and breaking the foreign technological monopoly. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Yang discussed the prospects of research and development of “hard-rock excavator”. Academician Yang Huayong’s explanation of profound theories in a simple language and his amiable style left a deep impression on the audiences who responded with a thunderous applause. This lecture has proved to be a complete success by broadening students’ horizons and arousing their interest in learning. |
