The University of Ulsan Considering Launching Joint Doctoral Training Program with SUES

On May 20, Vice President JonghoKim of TheUniversity of Ulsan (UOU) came to visit University of Engineering Science with a delegation group of 6 people. President Ding Xiaodong and Vice President Cheng Weiming received the distinguished guests. Person in charge of International Cooperation and Exchange and Students Affairs Office, Post-graduates Office, School of Machinery and Automobile engineering, School of Clothing Technology and School of Sino-France International Fashion Academy were also present in the meeting.

President Ding Xiaodong extended warm welcome to Mr. Kim and his crew. President Ding mentioned that since two international collaboration agreements were signed, SUES has witnessed more and more corporation and progress in subjects including automobile technology, clothing technology, and chemical industry. Summer programs that combines learning with research and production has been well received by students.

Based on the positive interaction between the two universities, Joint Doctoral Training Program Proposal was signed as a chance to breed talented students from the Joint Doctoral Training Program. It is believed that the act is mutually beneficial to help cultivate high-end and internationalized personnel. Meanwhile, President Ding hoped that the program will build a platform for both universities to share frontier academic resource and trends and effectively promote scientific cooperation.

The city of Ulsan has been recognized as the Korean city which was built around the corporate base of the multinational Hyundai conglomerate. Thus, the Hyundai Conglomerate announced its plan to give 40 billion wonto assist a variety of university-industry cooperation projects. President Ding believed this could set a good example for university-industry cooperation projects.

Vice President, JonghoKim, appreciated the warm welcome and he was glad to see more exchange and cooperation between the two universities. Mr. Kim promised to make great efforts to support the Joint Doctoral Training Program along with teacher and student exchange projects. He was impressed by the advanced teaching facilities and environment in SUES. He extended his wish to deepen the ties with SUES and work on the collaboration in education and research.

The signing of the Joint Doctoral Training Program Proposal was a good start for developing postgraduate projects as a way of promoting cooperative education model at SUES. The interaction between UOU and SUES will upgrade the internationalization level and competitiveness. SUES will take this opportunity to increase its reputation more broadly as well as provide a platform for teachers and students to further their study overseas.
