Gold Snake leaves and strong horse comes. January 29 is December 29th of China lunar year, called “New Year Eve”. In order to share warmth and concern, the leaders of Education Committee, our school leaders and staff of relevant departments prepared a festival feast for students staying at school, making the students feel at home even though they were far away from their homes. In the afternoon, at 16:30, the fourth canteen was bathed in colored lights and beautiful decoration. A post entitled “Spring Feast for Students Staying at School in Winter Vacation of 2013”was being held here. Yang Guoshun, Vice Inspector of Education Committee, Teng Jianyong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Sun Peilei and Cheng Weiming, Vice Presidents,and leaders from Party Committee office, President’s office, Postgraduate Department, Students’ Department, Security Department, Logistics Property Development Center, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee in relevant colleges, instructors all attended the activity. Xu Yang, Director of Students’ Department presided over the meeting.

At the beginning of the activity, Yang Guoshun, Vice Inspector of Education Committee, made a speech. First he extended the most sincere greetings to students from all corners of China on behalf of Education Committee, who were spending the Spring Festival of horse year in SUES, and he hoped that every student could be successful in study in the new year, take on the spirit of a horse and thrive in career, run like a horse and cherish a big ambition, take the lead like a horse and be a responsible citizen. He emphasized that the students chose to study in SUES, which is representation of being confident, ambitious and capable, asked the students to be proud of SUES and hoped the students to often go home and feel grateful to their parents and finally wished students lucky, healthy and successful in the horse year. After that, Sun Peilei, Vice President, gave his greetings to students staying at school and emphasized that this year’s feast had the biggest group of participants ever before, hoping the students to pay attention to safety and warmth, to take a look at Shanghai, learning about Shanghai custom and culture, and wished the students a meaningful and happy spring festival. At last, Yang Guoshun, Teng Jianyong, Sun Peilei, Cheng Weiming gave the students bonus bags, fruit gift boxes, snacks and telephone cards, and told the students to pay attention to nutrition and tell parents they were safe and sound in winter vacation.

More than 40 students from different colleges talked with the school leaders, laughing and smiling happily. The activity reached the climax when students volunteered to perform singing and dancing. First, Jin Yinqiang from Material Engineering College sang a song “Star Shine” playing the guitar. After that, the audience were not satisfied and asked him to sing a familiar song “Looking for Yourself”. The atmosphere was very warm. Then, teachers and students from Mechanical Engineering College sang a touching song “Moonlight in the Town”, moving the students emotionally. “Although we could not reunite with our families during the festival for various reasons, the school showed special concern to us.”The students from Xinjiang performed Xinjiang dance, making everyone present feel the exotic culture. The students of ethnic minority said, “This was the first time I celebrated the new year at school, and there was a warm and happy feeling.”

Ar Tengqimike, a student of Mongolia nationality from Social Science College brought a folk song of Mongolia “Father’s Grassland and Mother’s River”. She said “Although I missed my hometown, I did not feel lonely to spend the spring festival with teachers and students, just like at home.” Liu Yulong, a representative of postgraduates, used a flute, an Italian musical instrument, and performed “Hometown’s Natural Scenery”, presenting a picture of his hometown. The touching music seemed to bring the students back to their hometowns. The activity came to the end by exchanging blessings for the approaching new year.

In order for the students staying at school to spend the spring festival happily, the relevant departments of our school made full preparations very early. The dormitory and canteen and other departments arranged staff to be at positions and make the students feel the warmth at home and on campus.
