President Ding Xiaodong Attending “2014 China Cruise Economic Development Summit Forum”

On September 28, President Ding Xiaodong attended “2014 China Cruise Economic Development Summit Forum” held by Baoshan District, Shanghai. The forum was sponsored by Baoshan District People's Government, Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology and Shanghai International Cruise Economic Research Center. Focusing on the theme of “cruise industry & regional development”, the sponsors held the government theme speech, industry leadership theme speech, exchange of the achievements on cruise economic research projects, college student innovation forum, international forum of cruise tourism service innovation, and the dialogue between enterprises and cruise students, etc.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, President Ding Xiaodong, Mr. Qian Yongchang ( president of Communications and Transportation Association), Communist Party Secretary of Baoshan Dustrict, Professor Wang Hong ( director of Shanghai International Cruise Economic Research Center), Mr. Yang Jinsong Shanghai Municipal Tourism Bureau, Mr. Yang Qun ( editor-in-chief of Social Sciences Academic Press), Mr. Xu Peixing ( chairman of Shanghai Water Tourism Promotion Center) and Mr. Zheng Weihang (Executive Vice Director and Secretary General of Cruise & Yacht Branch, China Communications and Transportation Association) jointly started the crystal ball of “2014 China Cruise Industry Development Report”. “2014 China Cruise Industry Development Report” was published by the Social Sciences Academic Press and was edited by vice president Shi Jianyong and several cruise professors.

As theme speech speaker, President Ding Xiaodong delivered an important speech. After the opening ceremony, President Ding pointed out that our school positively crater to the needs of Chinese cruise industry development, actively carried out the teaching & practice mode of “integrating five parts into one” (production, learning and research teaching mode ) to cultivate international cruise shortage talents, and made a series of innovations in training objectives, training programs and training modes. The cruise talent cultivation mode is featured by its international and domestic initiatives, connection of the discipline with the industry, equal importance of theory and practice and close international cooperation; Our school is well-known for itsoverall leading teaching level, long-term professional advantages and disciplinary vitality; the new teaching mode has played an exemplary role for the higher education of tourism management and management discipline and has achieved an innovative cruise talent training model. After nearly nine years of professional development and teaching practice, our school has already become a leader of the cruise talent training from initially “bravebull”. President Ding’s speech aroused a strong reaction from the participants.

The representatives of the teachers and students from Tourism Management (cruise economy) Major of our school also attended this forum. Our school’s graduates Jiang Hong, Chen Xu and Cai Erbin made speeches respectively regardingthe efficiency of cruise industry on Shanghai's economic transformation and upgrading, China's cruise tourism supply and demand forecasts and the competitiveness of four major domestic cruise home ports. Undergraduates Xu Peng and Gu Yanqiong shared their cruise tourism experiences achieved from the internship. After that, a number of guests from cruise companies, ports and travel agencies were invited to attend the dialogue between enterprises and cruise students to communicate with our school’s outstanding graduates and in-study students. Finally, the corporate guests and graduates extended their sincere wishes to the attending students.

Then the forum ended with a great success. After that, several media agencies interviewed some teachers and students of our school.
