Recently, 2015 “Chengxin Cup” East China College Students Chemical Engineering Design Contest & East China Selective Trials of the 9th National Chemical Engineering Design Contest successfully ended in Wenzhou University. Under the guidance of Teacher Zhang Lijuan, Yang Chao, Wang Yixing, Ni Jicheng, Xia Jun, Li Xiang, Liu Guichao, Yin Rui, Xu Wenxuan, Chen Ming and Yu Lidui (2012 and 2013 undergraduates majored in Chemical Engineering and Technology from College of Chemical Engineering) respectively organized “EF” Team and “SUES Catalyst” Team to participate in the contest and obtained outstanding results; they won the second prize in East China Division of the 9th National College Students Chemical Engineering Design Contest and “Chengxin Cup” East China Chemical Engineering College Students Chemical Engineering Design Contest.
The contest is currently the largest and most influential national competition for the Chemical Engineering Major students and has been held for the 9th time so far. The contest is jointly organized by the Chinese Chemical Society, China Association of Chemical Education and the Chemical Engineering and Technology Specialty Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee for Higher Education Institutions under Ministry of Education. The event runs through the concepts of “environmental protection, conservation, safety, utility, innovation, practice and reasonableness”. Its topics are concentrated on the recent hot issues of the chemical and petrochemical industries. The contents of the contest cover all-round aspects, and various software regarding simulation, simulation, design and verification, such as Aspen Plus, 3D Plant needs to be used; so the task is extremely difficult. The students need to master the knowledge of several courses and supplement other new knowledge to resolve engineering problems. The contest is highly challenging and plays an important role in fostering students’ creative thinking, capabilities of engineering design and practice, and teamwork spirit.
It is the second time that our university students have participated in the contest. As Dean Xu Jingli, Party Secretary Liu Yuhong, Deputy Dean Rao Pinghua and Director of Chemical Engineering Department Wang Yuanjiang attached great importance to and greatly supported the participating teams, the ten team members made tense preparation for four more months in the newly-built chemical computer classroom. They participated in Shanghai Chemical Design Contest, East China Division of the 9th National Chemical Engineering Design Contest. After intense review, reporting and answers, the teams achieved pleasing results. Within nearly a half year from team organization to participation of contest, the participating teams and the students and teachers made a great deal of effort. We will continue to work actively to promote the school-running level of Chemical Engineering Major by participating in the chemical engineering contest and explore new ideas and new methods for cultivating the students’ engineering quality and comprehensive abilities so as to raise the school-running level and reputation of chemical engineering majors of our university.
