The 2026 SUES Spinovation Festival was recently held at the gymnasium on Songjiang Campus. The event attracted more than 240 faculty members and students, with 52 teams presenting “3-Wings” prototype projects at the public showcase. The projects covered a wide range of themes, including virtual fashion innovation and design, embodied intelligent robotics, AI-powered material genome coding, optoelectronic display technology education reform, cruise-inspired co-creation for better living, the 20th anniversary astronomy science exhibition, and circular design and campus ecosystem development. The projects spanned multiple disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, materials science, management, textile engineering, mathematics and statistics, design, and transportation engineering. Focusing on interdisciplinary integration, the showcased projects highlighted ingenuity and collaboration between SUES faculty members and students in advancing the university’s “3-Wings” talent cultivation idea and project-based learning (PBL) initiatives.

The “Spinovation Icebreaker” session set the tone for the event, inspiring enthusiastic interaction and collaboration among teams. During the subsequent exhibition and exchange sessions, the 52 teams engaged in project presentations and in-depth discussions, generating new ideas for interdisciplinary dialogues. Towards the end, participants generated a number of “Spinovation” initiatives through brainstorming activities and presented them in a flash-pitch session, bringing the event to an exciting finale.

In his concluding remarks, President Lou Yongqi commended the teams for presenting innovative ideas rich in potential and inspiration. He encouraged participants to pursue bold exploration and thoughtful reflection in their future learning and practice, so as to continuously stimulate innovation in talent cultivation. He further called on faculty members to reflect on how universities can, in the age of artificial intelligence, better cultivate students’ sense of mission while creating greater space for creativity, collaboration and humanistic values.

The inaugural Spinovation Festival brought together faculty members from diverse disciplines, sparking vibrant in-person exchanges and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Several interdisciplinary “3-Wings” practice projects were incubated on site and will later be integrated into ongoing curriculum reform efforts.
