From July 24 to 26, the national final of the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Innovation Practice and Application Competition, a sub-event of the China College Students’ Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Contest (CCSMEEC) hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, successfully concluded at Northeast Petroleum University. The Intelligent Manufacturing Welder Guardians team, guided by faculty member Wu Di from School of Materials Science and Engineering and composed of postgraduate students Liu Zisong, Xie Fahang and Li Ziming, stood out with outstanding performances in both the on-site defense and intelligent film evaluation sessions. They won the national first prize in the artificial intelligence film evaluation track (postgraduate group), marking a historic breakthrough for SUES in this top national Class A event and securing the university’s first national championship in this competition category.

The CCSMEEC is the top Class A engineering competition with the highest specifications and widest influence in China's mechanical discipline. The theme of this year's event is Intelligent Testing, Innovative Application. The SUES participating team focused on the cutting-edge field of artificial intelligence film evaluation for nondestructive testing, deeply integrated multidisciplinary knowledge of welding engineering, software design and digital management, and systematically solved the key technical problems of intelligent recognition for nondestructive testing images. In the final, with a technical solution that balances innovation and engineering application potential, as well as stable and reliable on-site performance, the team stood out from the fierce competition involving 220 teams with 660 participating students, fully demonstrating the solid professional quality and excellent engineering innovation ability of SUES students.
This award fully reflects the solid professional competence and outstanding engineering innovation literacy of SUES materials students. It is an important achievement of the School’s in-depth cultivation of scientific and innovation education and promotion of interdisciplinary talent training. The School has always adhered to the principles of promoting learning, innovation and construction through competitions. It builds a scientific and innovation practice platform relying on high-level discipline competitions, guides students to delve into professional frontiers, align with industrial demands, and refine their scientific research capabilities. The School continues to deepen the integration of industry and education as well as the integration of science and education, and constantly improves students’ engineering innovation ability and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
