
Recently, the national finals of the 12th BOSHIAC National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovational Competition concluded successfully at Harbin Institute of Technology. The project White Shrimp Automated Shelling Machine, completed by students Feng Zipu, Cui Xuanyi, Sun Yihan, Zou Xinshuo, and Wu Jiayi under the guidance of instructors Jian Qiwei and Zhang Xiaoxiao from the Mechanical Innovation Base of School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Shanghai University of Engineering Science, won the National First Prize.

The National Undergraduate Mechanical Innovational Competition is the highest-standard and most influential Class-A top-tier engineering competition in China's mechanical engineering discipline. Themed “Ingenious, Intelligent, Better Life”, this year’s competition brought together outstanding innovative works from top universities across the country to compete on the same stage.

SUES’ project addressed industry pain points such as low efficiency and poor hygiene in manual shelling of aquatic products through structural innovation. It optimized the mechanical transmission system and overcame technical challenges including shelling precision. Ultimately, with an innovative solution that combined creative value and engineering practicability, along with stable and reliable physical prototypes, the project stood out among a vast number of entries and received unanimous recognition from reviewers.

As one of only three teams from the Shanghai division to advance to the national finals, SUES’ team won the National First Prize in this competition again after four years, fully demonstrating the university’s accumulated strength in practical teaching and the students’ comprehensive engineering innovation capabilities.
