Rector of the University of Salamanca Visits SUES


On the morning of July 10, a delegation led by Juan Manuel Corchado, Rector of the University of Salamanca (USAL), Spain, visited SUES. Xia Chunming, Vice President of SUES, met the guests on Songjiang Campus. Heads of the International Office, School of Continuing Education, and School of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics attended the talks.


Xia Chunming extended a warm welcome to Juan Manuel Corchado and his delegation on behalf of SUES, he gave an overview of SUES’ history, distinctive educational approach, and internationalization progress. Xia Chunming noted that the two universities are highly aligned in terms of academic disciplines, educational philosophy, and talent cultivation objectives, with clear complementary strengths and promising prospects for collaboration. He expressed the hope that both sides would actively explore joint master’s programs under Sino-foreign cooperative education framework, promote the co-cultivation of high-caliber talent in fields such as mathematics, physics and statistics, and further strengthen faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and international academic partnerships, thereby broadening and deepening the scope of cooperation.


Juan Manuel Corchado introduced the development of the University of Salamanca. He indicated that as a world-renowned university with over 800 years of history, USAL has remained committed to openness and collaboration, and in recent years has actively positioned itself in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and new energy, continuously driving the integration of technological innovation with industry. He hoped that USAL and SUES would give full play to their respective strengths and establish a long-term, stable cooperative relationship in talent cultivation, research innovation, and international education.


During the talks, the two sides focused on a 2+0 Sino-foreign cooperative master’s program, discussed directions for collaboration in digital information and smart transportation, and exchanged views on specifics including program application, majors, curricula, and faculty. Drawing on SUES’ strengths in data science and artificial intelligence and USAL’s advantages in big data and cybersecurity, they deliberated on jointly cultivating high-level talent and co-building research platforms. The two sides also exchanged ideas on new models of international education, planning to rely on USAL’s scientific park to tailor talent cultivation to the overseas needs of Chinese enterprises, thereby promoting the integration of education and industry.


Both sides agreed to take this talk as a starting point, actively push forward the implementation of the master’s-level cooperative program and other collaborative projects, and jointly contribute to Sino-Spanish higher education exchange and innovative development.
