SUES Student Wang Wenjia Wins Championship in Road Mixed Team Relay at World University Cycling Championships

The 2026 World University Cycling Championships (WUCC), hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), recently concluded in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. Wang Wenjia, a student of Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), was selected for the Chinese University Sports Delegation and appointed team captain. In the road mixed team relay, he and his teammates cooperated closely and competed with determination, defeating strong opponents from multiple countries to claim the championship, thereby bringing honor to the nation and the university.

The Championships drew outstanding university cyclists from numerous countries and regions, with keen competition across all events. The road mixed team relay imposes stringent demands on athletes’ endurance, bike-handling proficiency, pacing control and team coordination; each handover and each acceleration directly influences the final outcome. On the course, Wang Wenjia competed with resolve and worked in close unison with his teammates. Through precise tactical execution and tenacious willpower, he sprinted to the finish and secured the title.

Throughout his studies, Wang Wenjia maintained a strong commitment to academic work while pursuing his passion for cycling, balancing coursework with specialized training and refining his riding technique and physical condition through sustained daily practice. Following his appearance at the 2024 World Championships in Costa Rica, he again secured a place representing China at a premier international university sporting event through rigorous selection. During the preparation period, confronted with limited training time and high training intensity, he planned his training on a scientific basis and proactively adjusted his physical and mental condition, exemplifying the self-reliance and drive for self-improvement characteristic of university students in the new era.

In recent years, SUES has consistently implemented the principle of comprehensive education across five domains, namely, an integrated approach to student development that balances moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education. At the same time, SUES advanced campus sports development, and fostered a campus culture that values athletic participation, physical fitness and the pursuit of excellence. The university encourages students to engage beyond the classroom and pursue their aspirations, supports students with special talents in competing at higher-level events, promotes the nation’s “fitness for all” principle, and advances students’ all-round development, reflecting the spirit of the SUES community.
