Debuting on the International Stage! SUES Exhibits at Paris Design Week 2026

On September 10 local time in Paris, the China Creative Pavilion of Paris Design Week 2026 grandly opened in the Marais district in central Paris. With the theme “BON GOÛT! Good Taste!”, the exhibition focuses on aesthetic reflection that goes beyond appearances. From the choice of space, brand selection, opening-ceremony lineup, to exhibition display, it comprehensively showcases the power of Chinese design in an Eastern context.

Professor Lou Yongqi, Chief Curator of the China Creative Pavilion and President of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, led the delegation to attend the event. Professor Gao Zhu, leader of the university’s design discipline, and Associate Professor Ren Zhongming, Deputy Director of the Product and Mobility Design Undergraduate Program, also traveled to France to participate. Chinese and international guests attending the opening ceremony included Chen Li, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in France, Wang Yin, Cultural Counselor, Pierre Gendrot, Operations Director of Paris Design Week, Su Xinxuan, Greater China Representative of Paris Design Week and Maison & Objet, and Gao Jianwei, Chief Planner of the China Creative Pavilion, etc.

Lou Yongqi stated that while artificial intelligence technology is rapidly iterating and reshaping the industry ecosystem, the most precious “core” of design will always be the humanistic warmth, artisanal craftsmanship, and spiritual perception that machines cannot replace.

After visiting the China Creative Pavilion, Chen Li stated that the exhibition integrates Chinese traditional cultural heritage with modern technological thinking, reflecting the power and ideology of contemporary Chinese design, as well as the innovative development of Chinese culture, allowing the French public to feel the creativity of contemporary Chinese design.

In his speech, Gendrot indicated he was honored to continuously present high-quality original design content from China in the core venue of Paris Design Week. The China Creative Pavilion has built a high-quality exchange window for Franco-Chinese design cooperation.

Several works from Shanghai University of Engineering Science were selected for this exhibition. “Air Flower Vase” and “Fifteen Keywords About Design” by Professor Yang Mingjie, Chief Professor of the Product and Mobility Design Group of School of Design; “Tianlu Xingchi Lenticular Coffee Cup” by Associate Professor Yao Hui, Director of the Undergraduate Program of the Media and Entertainment Design Group; and “Camelia Impression Jewelry Series” by Lecturer Wang Shuli of School of Textiles and Fashion. Through original art jewelry, new functional materials, Eastern culinary cultural creative products, and immersive interactive design, these works combine everyday practicality with avant-garde artistic expression, presenting a new generation of Chinese design that embodies both the warmth of everyday life and Eastern elegance. They received praise from both Chinese and international guests, demonstrating the influence and disciplinary confidence of SUES’ design discipline on the international stage.
