Course Description: Distributed control system (DCS) is the main stream of industrial automatic control processes nowadays. The major characteristics of DCSs is concentrating central management and decentralized control. With the development of computer technology, network technology and communication technology, DCSs has gained a broader concept. For the purpose of achieving a better employment of DCSs, it is highly required to acquaint and know well the skills of the choice, the design and the appliance of DCSs.

Field-bus technology is a new generation of control systems after the pneumatic instruments, the analog instruments of electric units, digital instruments and DCSs. Since it has adapted completely decentralization, networking and intelligence in industrial control systems, this technology has brought lots of convenience and benefits to the users of automation. It has also urged a great revolution to the structures and functions of the automatic instruments, DCSs and PLC products, which leads to the upgrade of industrial automatic products. Hence, the field-bus technology has been taken as a hot technology of the automatic control and praised as a new technology of the new century.
