UNITAR Director Mihoko Kumamoto Visits SUES for Cooperation Talks

On December 10, a delegation led by Mihoko Kumamoto, Director of the Division for Prosperity of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), visited SUES. President Lou Yongqi met with the delegation, and representatives from the International Office, the WorldSkills Research Center, and School of Higher Vocational Education participated in the reception.

On Changning Campus, President Lou Yongqi engaged in discussions on potential cooperation with Mihoko Kumamoto and her team. He elaborated on the SUES’ development goal of accelerating its transformation into a “world-class application-oriented and innovative university with distinctive industrial characteristics” and its commitment to advancing the innovative concept of integrating “Engineering, Management, and Design” in a 3-wings model. President Lou Yongqi proposed three directions for future collaboration: first, to strengthen the synergy among the government, the university, and enterprises based on the SUES’ strategic partnership with the local government; second, to leverage the platform of the Design Harvests 3.0: Chedun Innovation Ecology Alliance to deeply integrate the cultivation of application-oriented innovative talents with rural revitalization, industry-education integration, and sustainable design; and third, to focus on the forefront of scientific research, jointly carry out high-level project collaborations, and continuously enhance synergy in science, technology, and innovation while optimizing the cooperation ecosystem.

Mihoko Kumamoto expressed her sincere gratitude for the warm reception. She noted that UNITAR places great emphasis on enhancing the capabilities of individuals and institutions worldwide to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. She commended SUES for its solid work and forward-looking planning in WorldSkills research and the cultivation of technical and skilled talents, and expressed hope that both sides could jointly design and implement future-oriented capacity-building programs to empower young students and technical personnel globally, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

Following the meeting, Lou Yongqi presented a book to Mihoko Kumamoto as a gift.

This exchange aimed to deepen bilateral communication and cooperation in vocational education, skills development, and the cultivation of global competencies, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration. It also represents another important step by SUES to advance the internationalization of education, serve national strategies, and contribute to the cultivation of international talents.
