On December 26th, the inauguration ceremony of the Airport and Low-Altitude Economy Research Institute was held. Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee; Liu Wujun, former Chief Engineer of the Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub Construction Headquarters and former SUES Vice President; and Xu Kaiyu, Vice President of SUES, attended the event. Also present were Gao Xiwen, Director of the CPC Committee Office; Zheng Shubin, Director of the Research Office; members of the leadership team of School of Air Transportation (School of Flying); and representatives of teachers and students. The ceremony was presided over by Li Cheng, Dean of School of Air Transportation (School of Flying).

On behalf of SUES, Li Jiang extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the Airport and Low-Altitude Economy Research Institute, noting that its founding is a key initiative by the university to follow the national policy of developing new quality productive forces and to serve the strategic emerging industry of low-altitude economy. He expressed high expectations and clear requirements for the future development of the Institute, focusing on three aspects: adhering to demand orientation, promoting open cooperation, and maintaining safety as the bottom line.

In his speech, Liu Wujun stated that he would fully leverage his extensive experience in major transportation hub planning, construction, and industry management, actively serve as a “bridge”, promote deep integration of the Institute with industry practices, and support the Institute in solidifying its development foundation, refining its distinctive focus, and cultivating practical talent.

With faculty and students in attendance, Li Jiang and Liu Wujun jointly unveiled the plaque for the Airport and Low-Altitude Economy Research Institute, marking the official launch of this research platform focused on cutting-edge fields.

Xu Kaiyu presented Liu Wujun with the letter of appointment as an adjunct professor. Zheng Shubin announced the list of members of the Institute, with Professor Liu Wujun serving as Chief Consultant, Professor He Fajiang as Dean, and Professor Zhao Xiaoli as Executive Vice Dean.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Liu Wujun delivered a special lecture titled Planning and Operation of the Hongqiao Hub for the attending faculty and students. Drawing on his extensive practical experience as the former Chief Engineer of the Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transportation Hub Construction Headquarters, Liu provided an in-depth analysis of the core challenges and solutions in the planning philosophy, design, construction, and operation management of large-scale integrated transportation hubs. His insights offered valuable practical perspectives and inspiration for the Institute’s future focus on smart airport construction and the coordinated development of the “dual-air economy”.
In the future, School of Air Transportation (School of Flying) will seize the opportunity presented by the establishment of the Institute to deeply integrate with industry frontier practices, optimize disciplinary structures, and innovate training models, thereby making new and greater contributions to cultivating outstanding talent who can lead the high-quality development of civil aviation and the low-altitude economy.
