Professor Lou Yongqi recently led a delegation, including Professor Gao Zhu from School of Design (in development), to visit the SAIC Design Center, where they held discussions with Yu Jingmin, Executive Deputy General Manager of SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company, and Shao Jingfeng, Chief Expert of SAIC Group, Chief Designer of its R&D Center, and General Manager of SAIC UK Technology Center. The discussions focused on talent cultivation, design innovation, and university-industry collaboration, exploring future mechanisms and directions for cooperation in automotive design and engineering talent development.

President Lou expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and introduced SUES’ distinctive 3-wings Spinnovation educational philosophy—integrating engineering, management, and design—as a cornerstone of the university’s mission to become a world-class, application-oriented university driven by innovation. He noted that in response to emerging trends in the automotive industry, leading enterprises and universities must work hand in hand to integrate real-world industrial needs into every stage of talent development and jointly pioneer new pathways for design-driven innovation.

Yu Jingmin expressed strong interest to deepen industry–university–research collaboration with SUES, and to carry out comprehensive cooperation in areas such as joint curriculum development, practice base construction, and collaborative talent cultivation, aiming to build a high-level talent development hub in the field of automotive design.

President Lou presented Shao Jingfeng with a letter of appointment as a master’s supervisor for SUES’ Design program, marking a significant step forward in university-industry collaboration between SUES’ design education and industrial practice.

Both parties planted a commemorative tree at the SAIC Design Center’s “Peach Blossom Island,” symbolizing their friendship and shared commitment to future collaboration.
This visit enhanced mutual understanding between SUES and SAIC Group, laying a solid foundation for further cooperation in areas such as joint talent cultivation and collaborative innovation.
