First in China! SUES Industrial Design Program Obtained German ASIIN International Accreditation

On April 17, German Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN) officially announced that the Industrial Design program of School of Design (in preparation) at SUES has successfully obtained ASIIN accreditation, effective from March 27, 2026. This program becomes the first industrial design program in China to receive ASIIN accreditation, marking a breakthrough achievement in SUES’ program development and international education.

ASIIN is a highly influential accreditation agency for higher education programs in Germany and enjoys strong recognition in international engineering education and quality assurance systems. This accreditation indicates that the talent cultivation, curriculum system, teaching quality, and practice platforms of SUES’ Industrial Design program have met international authoritative standards.

The ASIIN accreditation process for the Industrial Design program was officially launched in September 2024. With university-wide coordination and support from various departments, the program underwent systematic improvements against international accreditation criteria, focusing on educational objectives, graduate attributes, curriculum system, teaching resources, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. On November 3 - 4, 2025, the ASIIN review panel visited SUES for an on-site assessment, conducting discussions, classroom observations, document reviews, and facility inspections. The panel fully recognized the program’s achievements.

SUES’ Industrial Design program is grounded in an application-oriented, innovative talent cultivation model, deeply implementing the “Engineering × Design × Management” 3-wings education philosophy. Guided by industry needs, driven by interdisciplinary approaches, and supported by practical innovation, the program continuously optimizes its curriculum, reforms teaching methods, and upgrades training paradigms to enhance students’ comprehensive problem-solving skills and industry readiness.

According to the accreditation committee’s resolution, the program will undertake one year of continuous improvement based on the expert panel’s feedback to consolidate the accreditation outcomes. Going forward, the program will take this ASIIN accreditation as a new starting point, fully integrating the international accreditation philosophy of “student-centered, outcome-oriented, and commitment to continuous improvement”. A university-school two-level self-assessment and continuous enhancement mechanism will be established to further elevate talent cultivation quality and core program competitiveness, providing stronger support for cultivating high-caliber industrial design talents with international vision, innovation capability, and engineering expertise.
