On the evening of May 8, the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 Chinese University Basketball League Division II(CUBAL DII) Southeast Division, hosted by the Federation of University Sports of China, was held at the gymnasium of Shanghai University of Engineering Science. Hua Aijun, Vice Chairman of the Federation of University Sports of China(FUSC), Xue Mingyang, former Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Representative of the Preparatory Group of Shanghai University Sports Federation, He Li, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, Xu Yang, Vice President of SUES, together with relevant competition officials and distinguished guests attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Xu Yang.
Eight women's teams and twelve men's teams from 16 universities across seven provinces and municipalities including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangxi and Anhui marched into the gymnasium one after another, greeted with warm applause from teachers, students and spectators. All attendees stood in solemn to sing the national anthem of the People's Republic of China, marking the official start of the tournament.
He Li delivered a welcoming speech. On behalf of the SUES and the division’s organizing committee, she extended sincere greetings and warm welcome to all participants and guests, and expressed gratitude to all supporting institutions. She introduced the university’s history, its Three-Coordination Education Model (coordinated school running, talent cultivation and innovation) and its goal of building a world-class application-innovation-oriented university with distinct industrial features. She also reviewed SUES’ experience in hosting numerous major domestic and international sports events, as well as its outstanding achievements including national championships and runner-up titles in basketball and football events. She stated that SUES would fully guarantee smooth tournament operation, and promote the spread of campus basketball culture and the cultivation of reserve sports talents.
Hua Aijun officially announced the opening of the 2025-2026 CUBAL DII Southeast Division. Athlete representative Du Haifeng and referee representative Chen Zhongjia took the oath respectively, pledging to abide by sports ethics, compete fairly and officiate impartially, so as to demonstrate sportsmanship and professional ethics. Xue Mingyang presided over the opening jump ball ceremony.
The opening match pitted Shanghai Jiao Tong University against Anhui University of Science and Technology. Players from both sides fought with high morale and tacit teamwork, demonstrating solid tactical literacy and excellent athletic prowess. Spectators cheered enthusiastically, creating a vibrant and heated atmosphere. After four intense quarters, Shanghai Jiao Tong University defeated Anhui University of Science and Technology with a score of 71:54, claiming victory in the opening game.
Held from May 8 to May 13 simultaneously in the main and auxiliary gymnasiums of SUES, the six-day event features a total of 54 thrilling matches. Gathering elite university basketball players from the southeast region, the tournament facilitates exchanges and skill improvement through sports competitions. It not only provides a platform for university basketball players to showcase themselves and make progress via communication, but also enriches campus sports culture and boosts the high-quality development of basketball in colleges and universities.
