In 2022, an international game will be held at SUES.Two years ago, the International University Sports Federation officially started the recruitment process for the hosting location of the 2022 World University Five-a-Side Football Championship. With the support of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, SUES, as the representative from China, became a bid for the game and then won it. Thus, for the first time this world event will be held in China.

In November 2019, led by the University leaders, SUES sent a bid working group to make a presentation to the International University Sports Federation.

“SUES has performed well in domestic five-a-side football events over the years, and we have hosted the 2018 National College Five-a-side football finals. Therefore, the rich experience is the main reason for our success in hosting the game.” Zhang Jianxin, the director of the Physical Education Department of SUES, said these words and emphasized that the leaders of SUES attached importance to the host of this event. He continued, “To host such an international level event is both an honor and a challenge, and the preparation for it has become the priority of the PE department in the past two years.”

On the wall of the office of PE department hangs a schedule, detailing all the tasks to be completed from 2020 to 2022. SUES set up a special tournament preparatory committee for this game and is determined to work together to create an outstanding world college football championship. According to the three competition venues plus three training venues standards, SUES plans to build a stadium about 8000 square meters to ensure the championship will be held successfully. Now the construction of the stadium has entered a state of intensive preparation.

As the highest level of world's five-a-side football championship, 32 teams are expected to participate in this sports game, and at least 16 countries’ teams will come to SUES to compete from each other. Being able to host this event has a significant influence on SUES’ football activity. This world level college five-a-side football championship will be a wonderful activity. The host of this activity is recognition of the development of football games at SUES over the years. Furthermore, the host of this event will definitely further promote the development of five-a-side football both on campus and around China. Zhang Jianxin said.
