School of Continuing Education is a secondary college under Shanghai University of Engineering Science, which is responsible for evening college, self-study examination and various training education of the University, with dual functions of school running and management. Its predecessor was the School of Adult Education, which was established in December 1995 and renamed as School of Continuing Education in April 2007. The School adheres to the motto of “Diligence, Seeking Truth, Innovation and Dedication”, practices the values of “Diligent Learning with Integrity, Deep Learning for Application”, relies on the discipline characteristics and rich teaching resources of SUES, adapts to the development strategies of Shanghai and the country. It is committed to meeting the lifelong learning needs of the people, and it will make unremitting efforts to meet the mission of “serving the needs, improving quality, and cultivating applied and management-oriented talents with international vision and innovation ability”.
The School was held for the first time in major of Business Management in April 1983 (renamed as Business Administration in the second half of 1999.) In November 2011, the School was awarded the prize of Advanced Collective by the National Higher Education Self-Study Examination Committee and by the Shanghai Higher Education Self-Study Examination Committee.
In March 1985, the School set up an evening college office to take up the responsibility of cultivating adult higher education for the society. After more than 30 years of development, it has continuously optimized the professional settings and training mode, and formed a teaching-oriented professional structure with engineering technology and traffic operation as the main focus, and multi-disciplinary and multi-level coordinated development of business management and art design, which has been well-received by the society and enterprises.
Since its foundation, the School has developed non-degree education and training for the society and serving the key industries and pillar industries, based on the key disciplines and majors of SUES. In recent years, the School has introduced foreign high-quality education and training resources, vigorously expanded internationalization and school-enterprise cooperation projects, realizing the transformation from degree education to both degree and non- degree education, serving lifelong learning.
