On October 21, the 3-wings Development Strategy Innovation Forum and Launch Ceremony of the SUES’ New Visual Identity was held at Lecture Hall II of the Library on Songjiang Campus. Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, President Lou Yongqi, Meng Xing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, as well as Vice Presidents Xia Chunming and Xu Kaiyu attended the event, along with all middle-level leaders, faculty members, and student representatives. Vice President Xu Yang presided over the forum.

“We must keep pace with the trend of comprehensive reform in higher education and ensure SUES has a clear positioning in meeting industrial needs and supporting regional economic and social development,” Li Jiang stated. He called on the faculty and students to deepen reform and work together towards the goal of building “a world-class application-innovation-university”. He outlined three key priorities: first, to grasp new trends and requirements of higher education reform from a strategic and holistic perspective; second, to ensure the effective implementation of the 3-wings development strategy through the “Four Transformations”; and third, to strengthen reform support through AI empowerment and leadership accountability as “two key variables”, securing progress toward the university’s strategic goals.

President Lou Yongqi delivered a keynote speech entitled “Innovative Talent Cultivation at SUES in the New Era”. He stated, “True interdisciplinary innovation must tackle real-world problems.” He reviewed the development of an interdisciplinary and international education platform, and outlined SUES’ roadmap toward a world-class application-innovation-university with distinctive industry features. He stressed a student-oriented approach and a “city as campus” philosophy. Students are encouraged to actively embrace the 3-wings development strategy, combining methods including reflective learning, active participation, and learning by doing to gain experience and hone skills. He noted that SUES will continue to turn the 3-wings strategy into an engine for reform, strengthening its role as a driver of innovation and educational progress.

During the invited presentation session, Vice President Xia Chunming, Dean Wang Jingguo of the Graduate School, Dean Li Yuanyuan of School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and Dean Hu Bin of School of Management Studies shared perspectives on promoting interdisciplinary cooperation and developing the 3-wings approach, exploring practical pathways to build a world-class university of applied innovation.
At the faculty exchange session, Prof. Feng Lu from School of Art and Design, Prof. Joseph Press and Associate Prof. Chen Junke from International Institute of Creative Design shared interdisciplinary teaching experiences. Young faculty representatives Wu Fan from School of Material Science and Engineering and Yan Huihui from School of Marxism discussed their classroom practices and reflection under the 3-wings approach, showcasing diverse teaching innovations. A multi-voice ensemble for education development reform thus began.

The ceremony also marked the official launch of the university’s rebranded visual identity. Secretary Li Jiang, President Lou Yongqi, Chief Designer of the Visual Identity Prof. Wang Min, and student and faculty representatives jointly unveiled the new emblem. The new brand highlights the university’s confidence and determination in accelerating its development from a renewed vision to a refreshed image and broader global reach.

The visual identity was created by Prof. Wang Min, a renowned design scholar, doctoral supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, art director for Beijing’s Olympic bid, and former Director of Image and Landscape Art for the Beijing Olympic Games. He explained the design concept: it is based on the abbreviation “SUES,” with geometric lines form a dynamic visual symbol representing openness, integration, and progress. The 3-wings symbolizes interdisciplinary synergy and reflects SUES’ commitment to building a world-class application-innovation-university. Li Jiang and Lou Yongqi presented Prof. Wang Min with the SUES Honorary Professor certificate and a commemorative plaque.

This new visual identity represents a pivotal step in SUES’ evolution toward a world-class university of applied innovation with distinct industry characteristics. It rallies momentum for the university’s ambitious roadmap of “one year to reorient, three years to set the trajectory, and ten years to achieve success.” From conceptual design to practical implementation, the new identity embodies the collective wisdom and passion of experts, alumni, faculty, and students, rendering the university’s strategic vision and reform commitment both vivid and deeply resonant.
This launch was more than the debut of a new emblem—it marked the harmony of vision and ambition. With a revitalized image and an open, international outlook, SUES advances boldly toward the future with unwavering confidence.
