SUES released Report on the Quality of Employment for Graduates in 2021 recently. The data sources for this report are: 1. Graduate employment statistics. 2. Graduate survey data. 3. Employer survey data.


There were 5,816 graduates in 2021, including 285 junior college students (4.90%), 4,270 undergraduate students (73.42%), and 1,261 graduate students (21.68%).


Our university’s graduates in 2021 were from 13 schools. The numbers of graduates from each school are shown in the table below. The top 3 schools in terms of the proportion of graduates were respectively the School of Management Studies (18.79%), the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (17.98%), and the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (12.16%). Among our university’s graduates in 2021, there were 3,472 male students and 2,344 female students, and the male to female ratio was 1.48:1. Our university’s graduates in 2021 were from 32 provincial administrative regions; 32.62% of the students came from Shanghai, and the rest mainly came from Anhui (8.91%), Henan (7.53%), Jiangsu (6.86%).


As of 31 Aug. 2021, 97.66% of our university’s graduates in 2021 had definite destinations after graduation. Specifically, 97.54% of our junior college students, 97.38% of our undergraduate students, and 98.65% of our graduate students had definite destinations after graduation. The most common form of employment for our university’s graduates in 2021 was signing employment agreements (68.74%), followed by signing labor contracts (14.46%). More than 95.00% of graduates had definite destinations after graduation in every schools. 100.00% of graduates from the School of Mathematics, Physics & Statistics, the School of Foreign Languages, and the Sino-Korean School of Multimedia Design had definite destinations after graduation. 100.00% of graduates from 44 specialties had definite destinations after graduation, including Fashion Economy and Management, etc. All of our postgraduate programs had more than 92.77% of graduates with definite destinations after graduation; all of our undergraduate programs had more than 83.67% of graduates with definite destinations after graduation; all of our junior college programs had more than 92.86% of graduates with definite destinations after graduation. 136 graduates from our university in 2021 are still unemployed, including “Looking for a Job” (1.60%), “Planning to Take the Civil Service Examination” (0.28%), and “Planning to Pursue Advanced Studies” (0.26%).


Most graduates from our university in 2021 got employed in Shanghai (75.58%), and the rest mainly got employed in Jiangsu (4.68%) and Zhejiang (4.42%).

95.60% of our graduates from Shanghai got employed in Shanghai; 66.03% of our graduates not from Shanghai got employed in Shanghai; 17.38% of our graduates not from Shanghai got employed back in their hometowns. Our university’s graduates in 2021 mainly got employed by private businesses (53.17%), state-owned businesses (28.61%), and Sino-foreign joint ventures, Sino-foreign cooperative businesses and wholly foreign-owned businesses (7.55%).  


Our university’s graduates in 2021 found jobs suited to our university’s specialties and training. And mainly got employed in manufacturing (31.58%), transportation, warehousing and postal services (11.11%), information transmission, software and information technology services (9.46%).


Specifically, our junior college students (34.25%), undergraduate students (28.03%), and graduate students (41.89%) all mainly got employed in manufacturing. Our university’s graduates in 2021 mostly became engineering technicians (35.36%). 1,280 graduates in 2021 joined Fortune 500 companies and famous businesses, accounting for 22.01% of the graduates.


Among our university’s graduates in 2021, 614 graduates pursued advanced studies (10.56%); 439 of them pursued advanced studies at home (7.55%), including 52 junior college students, 346 undergraduate students, and 41 graduate students; 175 graduates pursued advanced studies abroad, including 7 junior college students, 161 undergraduate students, and 7 graduate students. Our graduates pursued advanced studies abroad mainly in the UK (56.00%), the USA (13.14%) and Japan (6.29%).


Among our university’s graduates in 2021, 55 graduates started their own businesses in a diverse variety of sectors, mainly concentrated in culture, sports and entertainment (29.41%), manufacturing (23.53%), and education (17.65%). Their motives for starting businesses included a strong entrepreneurial awareness and ideal (76.47%), higher economic returns (52.94%), inspiration from the entrepreneurship education at university (29.41%).


Among our university’s graduates in 2021, 38 graduates joined the military (0.65%). In the past three years, the number of graduates from our university joining the military has increased significantly.
