On the morning of April 16, Academician Zhu Gaofeng and his delegation visited Shanghai Academician Center for investigation. On behalf of the center, Executive Deputy Director He Jun expressed warm welcome to Academician Zhu for his visit. This center is a fixed activity center for academicians in Shanghai, also known as “Home for Academicians” dedicated to serving them. Deputy Director He Jun introduced its functions including the introduction of academicians, music appreciation and conference reception.
Deputy Directors He Jun and Gu Xixin reported to Academician Zhu and his delegation on the basic situation and organizational structure of the center, and introduced its function positioning of decision-making consultation, academic exchanges, and service for academicians and young talents in this city. The center conducts research on key areas such as the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, biomedicine, and urban governance, and continues to provide advice and suggestions for the construction of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center. In recent years, a number of decision-making consulting projects have had far-reaching impacts with better social and economic benefits and received recognition by party and state leaders.
Shanghai Academician Center was established in July 2001, opened by Academician Zhu Gaofeng, then Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Academician Zhu introduced the historical background of and the real demand for the establishment of Shanghai Academician Center at that time. He congratulated the center and academicians in Shanghai for their achievements in the past decade, especially for their outstanding contribution to fields including environmental protection, biomedicine, and construction. With years of work experience in the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Zhu shared his opinions on ways to perform consulting service. He believes that academicians are usually experts in certain fields, but in decision-making consultation, engineering problems not only lie in technology itself but also involve the integration of engineering technology and social economy, which in most cases is in the scope of engineering management. Therefore, academicians need to accumulate knowledge in economics, management, law, humanities and social sciences. In the process of offering consulting service to academicians, the center needs to assist them to do better in the above-mentioned integrated and interdisciplinary aspects. In light of Shanghai’s unique location advantages and the development trend of the Yangtze River Delta, Academician Zhu also mentioned issues including the development of manufacturing industry in Shanghai, cultural identity and humanistic care in the “Belt and Road” initiative, and engineering education. Finally, Academician Zhu wished Shanghai Academician Center to achieve greater achievements in all aspects.
Wang Di, Deputy Director of the Engineering Education Development Research Center of SUES, on behalf of the university, expressed his gratitude to Shanghai Academician Center for its reception. He said that Academician Zhu Gaofeng was always concerned about the development of engineering education in local universities in Shanghai. At present, the academic research team led by Academician Zhu Gaofeng has been initially established in SUES. Leaders of the university attach great importance to the construction of national high-end talents and provide all-round guarantee and support for their work. Deputy Director Wang Di hoped that in the future, SUES and Shanghai Academician Center can support each other and work closely to jointly serve academicians in the areas of consulting research and academic exchanges. Both Academician Zhu Gaofeng and Deputy Director He Jun agreed on this point.
Academician Zhu Gaofeng’s investigation visit has laid a good foundation for future cooperation between the national think tank platform and our university.
