Adhering to the concept of open schooling and international development strategy, SUES has actively adopted educational resources of worldwide quality to aid in its internal development over the past decade. With its growing “international circle of friends”, SUES improves the construction of a modern engineering application university.
Optimizing the overall arrangement with a global perspective
The worldwide partners of SUES are growing, and the entire structure of international cooperation and exchange is being optimized. SUES has cooperated with almost 110 universities or institutions from over 30 countries and regions worldwide, including 16 partners ranking among the top 400 in the QS world, and has signed mutual recognition agreements with 85 universities from 28 countries and areas. In the past decade, SUES has received 640 groups of international visitors and more than 2,900 individuals, as well as 574 groups of faculty on international visits. SUES has expanded educational cooperation and cooperation with international organizations, established close cooperation with more than 10 universities in Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and other countries along the Belt and Road sector, and has become the director or member of international education alliances such as China-Thailand, China-Central and Eastern Europe and Silk Road University Alliance.
Enhancing the expertise of teachers to stabilize SUES standards
SUES continues to develop high-quality international cooperation and promote international cooperation and exchange in order to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of instruction. Since the 18th National Congress, SUES has contracted to build 14 international cooperation platforms such as international cooperation laboratories and research centers; the International Creative Design Institute was successfully approved, the breakthrough of Sino-foreign cooperative education program was achieved from projects to organizations; 170 national, municipal, and university-level foreign teachers, as well as high-end international specialists and teams, were imported, along with 325 long-term foreign teachers; more than 90 online and offline programs for international study and exchange have been formed, more than 3,500 students have studied and exchanged abroad, and the “New Youth Global Competence Training Program” has been implemented; SUES has launched the “International Student at SUES” plan, English courses for 5 undergraduate and graduate programs are available to international students, and Chinese language education for international students has been actively promoted. More than 1,200 international students come from more than 70 different countries, with a 95% coverage rate of students from “Belt and Road” nations.
SUES has a great environment with a wonderful stable system
In this decade, SUES has paid more attention to the systematic, holistic and cooperative development of internationalization. SUES has focused on party management of foreign affairs, the production of specialized projects in accordance with management authority and overall requirements, and the holding of university-wide conferences on international cooperation and exchange. SUES incorporated international cooperation and exchange into the annual assessment of schools (departments and centers), established special division and work teams, continued to promote the three-level international development of “university-schools-disciplines” and the “2+1+X” international cooperation model of schools, actively pushed the development of English-language websites and fostered an environment conducive to international development. Under the leadership of the SUES foreign affairs work leadership group, internationalization development of SUES has been continuously improved, and the endogenous momentum of it has been enhanced. With “raising quality and increasing effectiveness” as its central goals, SUTE is gradually transitioning from its “expanding” stage to its “doing well” stage.
Taking the effort to promote growth
International cooperation and exchange are actively integrated into the central work of the SUES and the new development pattern, and the connotation of internationalization is continuously deepened. The international cooperation and exchange have been actively planned around the classification evaluation, teaching evaluation, discipline evaluation, doctoral declaration, status data and high foundation statement, and have been closely coordinated with the development of all educational undertakings of SUES to form a synergy. SUES will continue to show the new contents of internationalization development and play an increasingly important role in the development of SUES educational undertakings, such as developing a platform for international capacity training to help cultivate talents, and formulating a plan for opening up to the outside world to improve quality and efficiency to help build a high-level local university.
Cooperation across borders with different platforms to overcome limits
SUES successfully won the hosting right of the World University Futsal Championship, established the WorldSkills Competition China (Shanghai) Research Center, undertaken the international training base project organized by the Chinese and Foreign Humanities Exchange Center of the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Belt and Road and BRICS International Alliance for Skills Development; participated in the Shanghai-Singapore Council logo design competition and was successfully selected; participated in and organized the Asia-Pacific Cruise Conference, the International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing and other high-level platforms. SUES facilitated the presence of international organizations such as the International Federation of German Universities of Applied Sciences (DHIK) in our university. Since the 18th National Congress, the University has actively participated in and organized global events and activities, created high-level educational exchange platforms, strengthened cooperation with international organizations, SUES actively provides its knowledge and energy to international education cooperation and governance.
Regarding the future, internationalization remains a crucial aspect of the SUES efforts to support education reform and growth in the new era. SUES will adhere to Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, as well as the Party’s foreign policy administration. SUES continues to promote long-term and stable friendly relationships with global education partners, to further improve the work system, to continue to promote the improvement of international education, and to endeavor to explore the path of international education consistent with its own characteristics, so as to welcome the victory of the 20th Party Congress with practical actions.
