Our University Won Two First Prizes in China Finals of 37th World Odyssey of the Mind

On February 28, China Finals of 37th World Odyssey of the Mind (OM) ended in Shanghai International Studies University. Three teams from School of Automotive Engineering all won prizes. Of which, the two projects of “Double Pressure-bearing Structure” and “Three Animal friends” won the first prizes in the university division; and “ The Story of Fishing” won the second prize in the university division.

Originated in 1978 in the U.S., Odyssey of the Mind competition is an international scientific and technological innovation competition, whose main aim is to examine students’ creative spirits and teamwork spirits. 584 teams from home and abroad participated in the competition. The competition of the university division is divided into structural problems, mechanical problems, performance problems and classical problems. In addition to SUES, 10 Shanghai universities including Donghua University, East China University of Science And Technology, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Maritime University participated in the competition.

Ma Jianli (deputy party secretary of School of Automotive Engineering) and Counselor She Haizhou acted as instructors of this competition. Under the great support and assistance of the School and the Engineering Training Center, students had the ample venue, tools and equipments for training; moreover, the instructors gave their guidance on practical operation and performance of the response language and provided pre-competition psychological counseling. This competition enables the students to have a better understanding of the purpose and connotation of the OM competition and cultivates their teamwork capacity to solve problems, so they come to know the importance of exchange, learning and sharing.
