On the afternoon of April 24th, Professor Cheng Li, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Chief Lecture Professor and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), visited SUES. President Yu Tao and Vice President Wang Yansong met with the visiting guests. Wang Qin, Director of the International Office, Professor Liu Zhigang, Dean of School of Urban Railway Transportation, and Professor Sheng Xiaozhen, a national-level talent, attended the meeting.
President Yu warmly welcomed Professor Cheng Li and briefly introduced the development history, educational philosophy, educational model, vision and international development of SUES. President Yu mentioned that PolyU and SUES have a good foundation for cooperation, with many commonalities in multiple disciplines. There are excellent prospects for cooperation in student exchange, faculty research collaboration, and the establishment of joint laboratories, and he hopes that the two universities can engage in deep collaboration across multiple levels and disciplines.
Professor Cheng Li expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception and highly appreciated and endorsed SUES's educational philosophy and teaching concept. He mentioned that research is based on application, and the PolyU has been actively participating in basic and applied research, promoting the development of cutting-edge knowledge, and continuously serving scientific research and industrial development in Hong Kong, neighboring regions, and other areas. He hopes to further exchange and collaborate with SUES in multiple disciplines.
During the visit, Professor Cheng Li gave a report entitled Development and Research Progress of Mechanical Engineering at PolyU at the Erudite Forum for faculty and students. He briefly introduced the development of PolyU, the construction of the mechanical engineering discipline, some major research topics being conducted by the Acoustic and Vibration Research Alliance, and the challenges and opportunities related to research. Professor Cheng's vivid and illustrated presentation inspired the research interest of the faculty and students.
Professor Cheng Li also visited the laboratories and research centers of School of Urban Railway Transportation, School of Air Transportation, School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, and School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He had in-depth exchanges with the heads of relevant disciplines. Professor Cheng highly praised SUES's rapid development and its characteristics of serving the local economy. He also provided valuable suggestions on talent cultivation, scientific research, and future development.
Professor Cheng Li's visit not only promoted the exchange between the two universities but also brought valuable learning and thinking opportunities for SUES faculty and students. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both parties, the cooperation between the two universities will continue to strengthen and make greater contributions to the development and innovation of education.
