SUES undertakes the award ceremony of charity advertisements competition of college students in

 

  

 

On April 25, the award ceremony for “micro charity aids the dream” charity advertisements competition of college students in Shanghai was held at Zhengda Square. During the ceremony, 275 students, 22 teachers and 12 organizations from universities in Shanghai were awarded with prizes. 

                               

 

Ding Xiaodong, president of SUES, was invited to deliver a speech, during which he first expressed gratitude to Shanghai Municipal Committee Publicity Department, Shanghai Civilization Office, Shanghai Municipal Party Committee on Education, and Shanghai Municipal Education Committee for entrusting SUES to host this contest. On behalf of all universities, he advocated that university students should, by virtue of this competition, shoulder the responsibility of performing charity with charity advertisements as the medium, glorify the core socialist values, advocate the spirit of volunteers, and promote the healthy development of the social charity cause so as to jointly pursue our Chinese dream.

On display at the ceremony were many charity advertisements designed and created by Shanghai university students that were close to life, full of innovation and symbolic of a greater significance. All these works not only inspired a sense of social responsibility and a consciousness of being masters among students, but also gave full play to the role of charity advertisements in disseminating advanced culture and leading the fashion of civilization.

With the event coming to a successful end, the organizing committee hoped that the competition should serve as an opportunity to encourage college students to take charity advertisements as a means of fostering core socialist values, inspire them to enthusiastically devote to social charity causes, promote the spirit of volunteers and contribute to the healthy and sound growth of social charity undertakings.

A host of features emerged out of the competition.

3-D launch ceremony. In April, 2013, the organizing committee set up the official website of the competition on http://www.yiban.cn/. The original graffiti works by students from 13 universities were based on the 10 most popular charity topics voted online by college students in Shanghai, namely, volunteer service, ecological protection, clean plate campaign, respecting the old and caring for the minors, low-carbon transport, green consumption, social responsibility, cyber morality, strong willpower, psychological health, food safety, and colorful life. On June 5, Yanshuang, vice chief of Shanghai Municipal Committee Publicity Department, Gao Deyi, deputy secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee on Education and Public Health as well as more than 500 teacher and student representatives from 20 universities attended the launch ceremony, with the simultaneous display 13 charity graffiti works. University students in Shanghai actively responded to the competition by drawing inspiration from the combination of charity-themed activities with the social practice during the summer vacation, and conducting creations surrounding the topics of low-carbon transportation, clean plate activity, conserving resources, security, and social responsibility.

Human-oriented selection and appraisal process. Up to Oct. 8, the organizing committee for the competition received a total of 707 pieces of charity advertisement works from 22 universities covering graphics, radio, and videos. Between Oct. 10 and Oct. 12, the organizing committee invited an expert panel consisting of university professors, specialists on advertisements, senior advertisement staff, and media people to conduct the priliminary assessment of competition works. Finally, 64 graphics, 33 radio works, and 135 videos made their way into the final review and evaluation. On Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, the organizing committee respectively organized two training camps, inviting Zhang Huixing, editor in chief of China Advertisement, Tao Weiming, innovation supervisor of Ari Soth (China), Tao Jun, publicity supervisor of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, Xu Chuanghong, party secretary of SUES school of arts, and Wang Zikai, chief of cartoon and public design department of Shanghai Polytechnic University to deliver specialized lectures, exchange experience and comment on works. Moreover the shortlisted students were encouraged to polish and improve their creations, some of whom actually made revisions to their works. Between December 5 and 7, offline review was carried out of the graphics and radio works. On December 8, the expert panel made a joint evaluation of videos, graphics, and radios.  

 

High-quality competition works. After two rounds of review by the expert panel, 2 creations won the special prize, 8 first prize, 21 second prize, 37 third prize and 2 best screenplay prize. Twenty two teachers were awarded the title of outstanding instructors, two universities prize for special contributions, three universities prize for excellent organization, and seven universities prize for organization. The expert panel agreed that the works in this contest were of superior quality full of originality. Zhang Huixing, editor in chief of China Advertisement held that the meaningful subjects contained in this charity advertisement works by university students reflected hot social issues well.  

The widespread social influence of university students has made the charity advertisement creations more convincing and representative, thus further promoting the mainstream culture. Through artistic display and novel expression, charity advertisements created by university students convey a variety of civilization concepts to the masses, and thus play a tremendous role in passing on the positive energy in the society.  Many competition works have won the acclaim from the media due to clear topics, innovative ideas, and potent influence and persuasion. Shanghai Bureau of Radio and T.V. Broadcast, some paper media and Shentong Subway Group have explicitly made it clear that some of the competition works will be broadcasted, displayed and showcased through corresponding channels.
