SUES has been awarded 5 projects in the list of approval of 2014 national social science fund projects recently released by National Planning Office of Social Sciences, a substantial gain in the number of approved subject categories and the first breakthrough achieved in the subjects of history of Party & Party construction, philosophy and library, information and documentation science. Since 2011, SUES has made remarkable progress in winning approval of national social science fund projects, with the number of approved yearly projects rising from the previous 3 to 5 or 6 in the recent two years, topping all engineering universities in Shanghai, thus guaranteeing the sustainable development of national social science fund projects. During the application for 2014 national social science fund projects, SUES mobilized and organized all schools and departments concerned to apply, with faculty members enthusiastically submitting a total of 66 project proposals, involving School of Management Engineering, School of Social Sciences, School of Urban Rail Transportation, School of Foundation Courses, School of Physical Education, school, library, and Department of Research and Development. Department of Research and Development has supported the construction of “broad humanities” through a variety of means, i.e., cultivating backbone members of team for projects at the national level in the form of “task-oriented scientific team”; accumulating academic influence by encouraging faculty members to publish high-quality papers through classification system of university journals; conducting study to strive to lay a solid foundation for project research by promptly publicizing the approval of research projects in all fields and at all levels.
