On March 10, “Bao Steel Mechanical and Electrical Integration Class” (abbreviated to Bao Steel Class below) jointly created by Bao Steel Share Ltd and Shanghai University of Engineering Science was formally opened. Under cooperation of both two sides, 39 students was picked out from freshmen of Mechanical and Electrical majors to study in this class, and signed a pre-employment agreement, which means that these 39 students will become “preliminary employees” of Bao Steel this new semester. Che Guangtao, a student of Electric Automation major from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department of Vocational School, learned this January that our school has a joint education program with Bao Steel and he was very concerned about it. “Because I was not good at all subjects, I was not able to become an undergraduate in the college entrance examination, but I had considered my future employment when I chose to study at vocational school. Bao Steel was one of my goals.” It turned out that his elder brother used to an employee in the branch company of Bao Steel and now has become a department manager. Before he made his decision, his brother had a very deep influence on him. Bao Steel pays high attention to employee training and individual development, which gave Che Guangtao a strong feeling of recognition, so he chose a school in Shanghai without any hesitation, and journeyed a thousand miles from northeast to study in Shanghai. On February 21, our school and Bao Steel launched an admission counseling for students of Mechanical and Electrical majors of 2013 of vocational school. Che Guangtao joined the counseling team very early. Registration procedure, interview and the future’s “pre-employment” pattern were all his concerns. After he read the enrollment regulation, “A pre-employment agreement will be signed for students of Bao Steel Class. A student who passes all courses, obtains diploma and relevant professional qualifications and conforms to pre-employment agreement conditions will be formally admitted and an employment contract will be signed. The student can work directly in Bao Steel Share Ltd.”, Che was moved and felt he was a step closer to his goal. Later he finished filling out the form quickly and handed it in. Che Guangtao made a very careful preparation for the coming interview. He said, “Those days I felt I was more concentrated than I did the college entrance examination and the interview for graduation employment was held beforehand. I dressed myself formally and prepared my self-introduction as well as my major knowledge. I hoped I could pass the interview.” On February 25, the interview day, the enterprise sent an expert employment group which consisted of 8 experienced management staff to attend the interview and computer test. The computer test has more than 200 items, testing the students’ IQ, EQ, reaction ability, outlook and teamwork consciousness and so on from 36 dimensions. According to Che Guangtao, “There were almost 80 students attending the interview, all from Mechanical and Electrical majors. The competition was very fierce. In the interview, 8 teachers from the enterprise who I had never met asked questions. I was very confident, but also very nervous.”After several rounds of interviews, what impressed Che most was that the interviwers were not so interested in major knowledge, but preferred to ask them whether they could work hard, whether they were willing to work in Shanghai, what they thought of Bao Steel and so on. According to the employment experts, they showed more attention to the students’ comprehensive qualities, abilities and a good attitude to work when they were picking the students.” On March 6, the name list of 39 students of “Bao Steel Class” was formally determined and Che Guangtao was one of them. He was very happy and looked forward to the study and internship. “I heard that the class could learn from our masters when we were studying. I looked forward to it very much! My parents and my brother all supported my decision.” Concerning the future development of these students, from course design to graduation examinations, our school and Bao Steel both have the participation right and obligation for the whole process and guarantee teaching quality and develop talents completely conforming to Bao Steel’s employment requirements. President Ding Xiaodong said when he was interviewed by the media at the signing ceremony: “The students must spend 60% to 70% of their study time in class. The rest of time will be spent in studying at the enterprise. The exam does not just consist of an exam paper but also handwork test by the enterprise.” Chu Junsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Bao Shan Steel Share Ltd., said “The former metallurgy industry department specifically offers talents for enterprises of metallurgy industry. Now our education is an open-up pattern education, which develops talents for both metallurgy industry and all enterprises, so we need some ordered talents.” These years steel and metallurgy schools are shrinking and professional workers are in short demand. The steel industry has an urgent demand for talents. Our school takes the lead in introducing “dual system”into vocational education and has taken a substantial step in developing professional workers with high-quality and good skills with Bao Steel. The two sides created jointly “Bao Steel-SUES Mechanical and Electrical Integration Technology major cooperation and high-quality skilled worker development program” and based on the joint education policy of “double main body, double bases, double teaching faculty”, according to the cooperation principle of “advantage complement, resources sharing, production combined with study, joint development”, centered around vocational activities. Built a four ladder-type course structure of vocational quality, vocational development, vocational skill, and vocational ability. The two sides will take the courses together, manage together and develop together talents who possess maintenance and operation skills of metallurgic equipments and recognize the business culture of Bao Steel in order to accelerate the talent development of Bao Steel.
