Shanghai Spring Festival Transportation of 2014 reached the peak and in the heated scene of Spring Festival Transportation 150 volunteers from our university were seen. Since the start of Spring Festival Transportation on January 16, after expansive screening and careful selection, the school’s Youth League carefully selected 150 students to form a volunteer service team named “Small Sweet Orange”, consisting of 80 students from Songjiang Campus and 70 students from Vocational School. Facing the passenger rush of more than 100,000 every day in Shanghai Railway Station and Hongqiao Railway Station, the volunteers were very busy at their positions from 8 a.m. to 18 p.m. Bearing the service notion of “sincere heart and earnest wish”in their mind, they did their work without complaints. Many students who do not live in Shanghai had given up returning home early and volunteered to participate in the Spring Festival Transportation. “Small Sweet Orange”Yang Bo, Weng Weikang Reacted Quickly and Helped the Man out of Danger On January 16, the first day of Spring Festival Transportation,“Small Sweet Orange”Yang Bo, Weng Weikang were just beginning their afternoon shift. The railway made an urgent announcement: “A passenger who had just got off the train suddenly had an acute intestinal obstruction and needed to be sent to hospital immediately. The ambulance had started off for the station.” Hearing the announcement, Yang Bo and Weng Weikang realized that time was urgent and even one second was important, for the disease might take a patient’s life if not treated in time. The patient was still on the platform No. 20 and volunteers had to pass the checking gate before they could get on to platform No.20. Depending on their experience of volunteering service and wonderful skills, they borrowed a wheelchair from the information desk and rushed to the passenger with the railway leader. It was Spring Festival Transportation time and the checking gate was full of passengers. The two “Small Sweet Oranges” tried very hard to rush to the gate and got to the platform at the highest speed, helping the man out of danger in time. The mother of the passenger held their hands and said excitedly, “Thank you, thank you, you volunteers helped a lot.” “Small Sweet Orange”, Ticket-Buying Assistant Fu Xilong Helped the Passengers Go Home “Seeing their anxious faces, I felt that these days’hard work was really worthwhile.” Fu Xilong’s hometown is in Gansu and this year he once again gave up going back home early to participate in volunteer service. For him, working with other volunteers at the scene of Spring Festival Transportation was a kind of pride and honor. Every summer, he joins the team with his little fellows to take care of the left-behind children in the west. They have been to Yunnan, Qinghai, Gansu to hold summer camps and interest classes, helping the children spend those unforgettable vacations. Those children’s eyes to expect their parents home were always lingering in his heart and were not to forget. “So volunteers of Spring Transportation were very important. Helping those peasants buy tickets and get on the train as early as possible, I felt I was helping those children in the west realize their dreams.” This year, he volunteered to register for a “Ticket Assistant” and gave guide at the ticket office for passengers with great patience. “Small Sweet Orange”Li Yingzi Used Camera to Record Growing-up Moments These two days, a girl student called Li Yingzi held a big camera and recorded those moving service moment of “Small Sweet Oranges” and also the passengers’ smiling faces expecting reunion. Xiao Li said that not only volunteers but also passengers going back home all recorded expressions of Spring Transportation of this age, and contained those growth moments of volunteers. She wanted to make these photos into albums, as a souvenir of her participation in Spring Transportation. Leaders Visit and Inspire Small Sweet Oranges “Small Sweet Oranges” felt the process of volunteers guiding passengers to buy tickets on the scene and listened to their working feelings. Sun Peilei, Vice President, praised the volunteers for their giving up holidays and devoting themselves to serving the society and people. He hoped that “Small Sweet Oranges” volunteer brand project could continue to develop and become a very important platform for SUES to develop public interest talents, and he gave precious advice on how to connect with major advantages and involve major students in volunteering service. Small Sweet Oranges were also full of confidence, hoping to stick to their positions with great efforts and make contributions to Spring Transportation. This year is the sixth year of Small Sweet Oranges. The Youth League of our school consistently strengthens “Small Sweet Orange”volunteer service brand and due to its cultivation and guide, a large number of excellent student model figures came into being, receiving many national and municipal awards, and was actively reported by social media and became an example to present the positive energy of youth of our school.
