On the morning of Sept 4, SUES president Ding Xiaodong, quoting from the classics, gave the first marvelous lecture to the freshmen of this fall semester in Zhi Hong auditorium.

resident Ding introduced the characteristics and education concepts of SUES. SUES has a history of 36 years and is a university of “well-born, having engineering traditions, starting with undergraduate education, having cooperation with relevant industries and distinct characteristics”. We stick to the education concepts of “cooperative cultivating talents, cooperative running-school and cooperative creation”. Ding also explained our university motto “Diligence, Seeking Truth, Innovation and Dedication” and our value “working hard with honest attitude, learning more for the sake of application”. Ding also threw light on the new features of the university: new room for running school, new quality sign, new discipline platform and new cooperation base.
Then the president threw some light on the new system of “full credits”, which is an opportunity and a challenge as well. Under the new system, the freshmen have more freedom to choose courses and teachers, to plan their four-year study and life. Each freshman is equipped with not only a full-time coordinator, but also a four-year tutor, who will help them grow quickly and smoothly and develop good study habits, diligent attitude, scientific study methods and strong logic.
In the end, president Ding ended his lecture with good wishes for the freshmen, hoping them to become a helpful talent for the society.
After the lecture, a student from the College of Engineering Science said, “It’s hard to imagine the president himself gave the first lecture to us, telling us how to study, giving directions for the future life and study”.
