English Language and Culture Institute is one of Institutes in School of Foundamental Studies of Shanghai University of Engineering Science. It was founded in March 2014. There are five staff members in it. Three are associate professors, two are lecturers. Of all ,one has earned the Doctor’s Degree, one is doing in-service Doctor’s Degree, and the rest three have got Master’s Degrees. The Institute orientates foreign linguistics and Chinese and western cultures, combines theory and application research and focues on linguistics, second language acquisition and language and culture in a very specific way. It aims at the principle that all research work should base only on acadamic studies, centering on research work and activating research programs of various kinds. Balancing theory with application, comparing Chinese and western cultures and transmitting Chinese cultures are the unique features of English Language and Culture Institute.
