On November 1, SUES comes to its 36th birthday and Alma Mater cheerfully welcome graduates back. Today, 2072 alumni come back to the University to celebrate the 36^th Anniversary Alumni Reunion & Campus Opening Day. The teachers, students and the alumni get together to relive the campus days, recall the course of struggle, share insights on life and conspire a better future. The university leaders hospitably entertain alumni respectively on Songjiang Campus, Xian Xia Road Campus, Yixian Road Campus and attend related activities.

Showing A New Look of Campus and Building Campus Cultural Feast

The Alumni Reunion & Campus Opening Day is an important platform for friendship sustenance, emotional contact and information exchange; it is also a significant initiative to demonstrate the university achievements and unite people from all walks of life. In order to welcome the alumni back to SUES, our University has elaborately planned the work of the achievement demonstration, gatherings of teachers and students’ forces, connotation construction and alumni communication. Nine service areas have been set up and ten large-scale exhibitions are held to demonstrate the achievements made by the university in the aspects of teaching, scientific research, international education, alumni start-ups, associations activities, student affairs, etc. to show a new look of the university’s development; seven branch inauguration ceremonies, including the inauguration ceremony of the Shanghai MBP Software Co., Ltd. branch, are held to improve the alumni work organizational structure; 14 alumni lectures with the theme of “Dialogue with Industry Elites and Perception of Industry Development” are made to inspire current students to plan their careers; 19 experience activities are organized to demonstrate the university’s teaching resources, such as opening of training center, simulated driving of the rail train, flight simulation, etc.; the “Change of Light and Shade to Show Instaneous Moment of Cheng Campus—— Old Campus Photos Collection” is carried out to relive the university’s development course; the “One Hundred People Scroll Unveiling Ceremony” is conducted to show the accomplishments of Arts and Humanities of the engineering major students; our university also makes great efforts to provides 14 heart-warming services, such as admission counseling, bicycle circuit campus trip, special drama performance, parent-child paradise, etc. so as to present the campus cultural feast with distinctive features for the alumni back to SUES.

Reliving Their Youth in SUES and Making Affectionate Wishes to the Alma Mater

Alma mater welcomes you! From 8:00 a.m., the alumni successively return to the University. At the guide booth, volunteers warmly receive the alumni and put on the university badge for them, and orderly guide them to the designated classrooms of respective schools to report their arrival. With a little strangeness, they come into the familiar classrooms, reliving teacher-students affection and classmate friendship with palpable excitement. Later, holding the “Service Guide” in hands, they roam in the Cheng Campus, linger around the corners of their alma mater, enthusiastically participate into the various activities organized by the university, feel the university’s development and actively provides suggestions for the future of their alma mater.

Cheng Campus looks warmer and more vigorous with the alumni coming back. The alumni flock together to travel around the campus, feeling the rapid development and changes of the university; or they passionately embrace each other, talking of their past classmate friendship; or they take photos together, fixing their memory of the alma mater. Having not seen each other for several years, they reunite in the alma mater again. They see their beloved teachers and students, feeling pressed to talk with them and recall the past incidents. However, most of their conversations focus on the stories that occurred on campus, on the playground and in the student dorm; most of memories are related to the teacher-student affection and classmate friendship. The alumni express their wishes to the alma mater one after another. Alumni Guo Qiang hopes that the university may draw up a “grand blueprint” Alumni Luo Jiyue acclaims the beautiful campus environment, sophisticated research equipments and wishes that the alma mater could train more engineers and become more powerful. Alumni Liu Shuai holds a cordial talks with the students during the lecture, providing advices for the career development; she said:” the college students should not only cherish the learning opportunities in university, but also establish the concept of lifelong learning and maintain their keenness on study all the time.”

Jointly Expecting and Building A Better Future of the Alma Mater

   In retrospect, our university is rooted in the fertile socio-economic land with the evolution course of “Gentle Birth, Undergraduate Starting, Engineering Tradition, Industry experience, Distinctive Features”. Our university has build the “three-aspect collaborative education mode” of “collaborative moral education, collaborative university education, collaborative innovation” and formed a distinctive training model, and has been striving to build the cradle of outstanding engineers, excellent designers, salient operators and advanced technicians. Under the unremitting efforts of all teachers and student, the University has been rapidly expanded; the teaching quality is steadily improved; the discipline and specialty construction has achieved a leapfrog development; the scientific research has been elevated to a higher stage; the teaching and research institutions are optimized and integrated; the management system reform has continuously been deepened; the basic teaching conditions has continuously improved; the space for development has been greatly enlarged. Now our university has been developed into a higher education institution with a variety of disciplines and distinctive features.

Looking to the future, all teachers and students of the University will adhere to the “three-step” development strategy. Under the guidance of the values “Sincere and Diligent Operation; Application of Profound Knowledge”, they are bound to take a conscious, self-confident and self-reliant status, shoulder the glorious mission entrusted by the times, and courageously advance to the goal of building the university into a socialist distinctive modernized university with strong comprehensive competitiveness.
