During May 13 to 17, President Xia Jianguo and his party visited Lawrence Technological University, the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Florida Institute of Technology and were warmly welcomed by the partner universities in the U.S.A.
President Xia Jianguo first visited the Lawrence Technological University, a university that has kept cooperation with our university for more than ten years. President Xia and President Virinder K. Moudgil held an in-depth talk about future cooperation between the two universities. At 2015 Sino-US Joint Management Committee meeting for cooperative education programs, President Xia recalled the cooperation between the two universities in the last ten more years and pointed out that the Sino-US cooperative education program cooperation projects were the common cause, common vision, common interest and common responsibilities of the two universities; he hoped that both sides would continue mutual efforts to strengthen high-level interaction, carry out more exchanges and cooperation and continuously expand cooperation projects so as to achieve a common vision between the two universities. Subsequently, President Xia specially visited the teachers and students from School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and School of Automotive Engineering of our university who were doing graduation design there, and cordially asked about their study and life there. President Xia also met alumni of the North American Alumni Association of our university, carefully heard the introduction to the Association and awarded a flag to the North American Alumni Association. He earnestly expected that the alumni would sincerely cooperate with each, strive to learn and work and make contribution to the development of their alma mater; he indicated that alma mater would always look forward to their news of success.
During the visit in the University of Michigan - Dearborn, President Xia said in his talks with Chancellor Daniel Little that the two universities were engineering universities, so the two universities had a lot in common in philosophy and mission of schooling; moreover, the two universities have the same majors and disciplines, so the two universities would have a solid foundation for cooperation. He hoped that both sides would create new modes of cooperation, deepen cooperation, realize resource sharing and complementary advantages, continue to strengthen cooperation and exchange of teaching and scientific research, promote mutual recognition of student credits and other projects, and strive to implement and advance each project in a solid manner so as to push cooperation and exchange between the two universities to new heights.
During the visit to Florida Institute of Technology, President Xia held a friendly talk with President Anthony J. Catanese. President Xia introduced school-running characteristics and schooling philosophy of our university. He hoped that both side would carry out comprehensive cooperation in teaching, research and student exchange and other aspects, and jointly promote the mutual cooperative education. Later, the two universities signed the international cooperation and exchange agreement, planning to carry out comprehensive cooperation and exchanges in various disciplines and fields.
During the trip to the U.S.A., President Xia also visited the University of Central Florida at invitation.
