“I will finally have the opportunity to drive an airplane like the cool captain in the film named ‘Soaring into the Sky’!” said Cao Siming on July 14, a Shanghai high school graduate who received the Letter of Admission as Flight Technology Major student from SUES in the early batch of admission process. Cao’s scores at the College Entrance Examination ranks first among all science students of his major. Meanwhile, Professor He Fajiang (Party secretary of Air Transport School and Flight School), Chen Qiang (Deputy Manager of Flight personnel recruitment management department of Eastern Airlines), Gu Ying (Dean of flight technical department, undergraduate mentor teacher), Li Cheng (deputy secretary of the School who is in charge of the students affairs) and Teacher Zhao Mengying (director of the students affair office) came to Cao’s house to deliver the Letter of Admission.

Professor He Fajiang solemnly handed the red Letter of Admission to Cao Siming. Deputy Chen Qiang gave the pilot uniform (a symbol of “quasi-pilot”) and pilot hat to him. He encouraged him: “Cao, you are fortunate to meet the good chance of the School’s development. So it is advised that you should accumulate the flight technical knowledge, do exercises to be physically strong, hone your own will and form the pilot consciousness of ‘responsibility - regulation - decision - moral – Team’  and be ready as soon as possible to become a qualified airline pilot. ”

During the home visit, the teachers learned that Cao Siming graduated from Nanyang Model High School, and he has a dream of becoming a professional pilot since childhood, which also inspires his interest in professional flight technology. Although classmates all showed great interest in 985 project universities and 211 project universities when filling in their desired universities and majors regarding college admission, he unhesitatingly selected Shanghai University of Engineering Science when he learned that SUES recruited flight cadets. Eventually, he was admitted by Air Transport School & Flight School of SUES at the score 19 points higher than Class A universities (science students). He felt inspired about his score and his ideal major. As a teacher of Flight Technology Department, Gu Ying told him about the new Flight Building and shared with him from the professional perspectives the pilot training mode of the School, the academic courses, paramilitary management mode and the interview by the foreign flight schools; thus Cao can plan his college study and college life from the first day of admission and adapt to the pilot training mode as soon as possible.

On that day, the leaders and teachers also delivered the Letter of Admission to Gong Lei at her home. Gong Lei graduated from Baoshan High School and his scores at the College Entrance Examination ranks first among all students of liberal arts of his major. As flying in the blue sky is his constant dream, he determined to apply for SUES. He recalled that he encountered extraordinary ups and downs in choosing the major, for he had been plagued by excessive weight. But in order to fulfill his dream, he usually did physical exercises after study. Since October last year, he has gone through several procedures, such as physical examination, interview, etc. Now he really feels inspired and delighted when he is finally admitted. His parents added that their son experienced hardship of several kinds to apply for this major; now after being admitted they have a feeling of realizing the dream. In addition, the teachers even delivered the Letter of Admission in person, which makes them feel confident about the students’ future career!

It is understood that SUES will issue nearly 1,900 copies of Letter of Admission within the next one month in Shanghai and nearly 4800 copies in China. Summer is the time when the high school graduates are put on the published list of successful candidates, and is an ideal period in which full-course instructors can learn about the new students by approaching them. Through summer visits to the new students, full-course instructors can learn about the new students, make a “customized instructions” for them and provide more effective assistance according to their different personal conditions. So students can plan their own study under the Credit System.

In addition, SUES adheres to the goal of training applied talents by resorting to the university-industry cooperative training mode. Therefore, the cooperative enterprises are much concerned about the issuance of Letters of Admission. The visit by enterprise leaders and teachers to the new students shows the advantages of university-industry cooperative platform and is quite conducive for them to shift their roles from “high school student”, “college student” to “social persons”.
