The 2024 Graduation Design Exhibition of School of Art and Design opened on May 8th, with the theme of Design & Industry: Chinese Modern Design Wisdom. The opening ceremony was held at the Art Building on Songjiang Campus, attended by Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of SUES, Xia Chunming, Vice President of SUES, representatives from the Songjiang District government and industry associations, representatives from other universities, and heads of relevant schools from the University. The opening ceremony was hosted by Li Yunxian, Secretary of the CPC Committee of School of Art and Design.
Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of SUES, announced the opening of the 2024 Graduation Design Exhibition of School of Art and Design with the theme of Design & Industry: Chinese Modern Design Wisdom. After the opening ceremony, Li Jiang and other leaders visited the graduation exhibition and had a cordial exchange with faculty and students on the spot, giving high praise to the students' innovative thinking, practical ability, artistic reflection, and humanistic cultivation in their graduation works.
Xia Chunming, Vice President of SUES, delivered an opening speech. He indicated that in recent years, the design discipline at SUES has achieved rapid and substantial development, with the ranking of design studies in the Shanghai Ranking continuously rising, composing a new chapter of high-quality development of School of Art and Design. At present, the development of the design discipline should be based on serving the overall situation of economic and social development in the local area, adhering to the characteristic of education and industry integration, implementing the OBE concept, and comprehensively promoting the cultivation of high-level applied art and design talents.
Gao Zhu, Vice Secretary of the CPC Committee and Dean of School of Art and Design, delivered a parting message to the graduates of the class of 2024. He hoped that the students would always have a grateful heart, inherit and carry forward the spirit of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, seize the opportunities given by the times; use their professional expertise to contribute design wisdom to China's modernization; and always maintain the spirit of self-improvement, be willing to shoulder responsibilities, and become talents who are devoted to the country and society.
Representing the enterprises that participated in the cooperative education, Ren Qiangjun, the Operations and Project Director of Shanghai POVOS Electric Works Co., Ltd., spoke highly of the educational model of SUES School of Art and Design that serves the needs of the industry, coordinates education and training, and achieves win-win results. He also affirmed the design innovation and R&D capabilities of the faculty and students of School of Art and Design, and hoped to further deepen the integration of school-enterprise cooperative education and promote the deep coupling of education chains, talent chains, industrial chains, and innovation chains.
The graduation design exhibition was divided into two exhibition areas, namely the A-zone at SUES Information Center and the B-zone at the Art Building. It showcased the graduation design works of 351 undergraduate students from eight majors, including product design, industrial design, environmental design, visual communication design, digital media art, art and technology, advertising, and photography, as well as 95 postgraduate students from the Master of Design and the Master of Design Studies, fully displaying the innovative spirit and bold vision for the future of SUES graduates.
