SUES Celebrates the Grand Opening of the 2024 Sports Meet

On the morning of May 15, 2024, the sports meet of Shanghai University of Engineering Science kicked off with a grand ceremony at the Songjiang Campus Gymnasium. All SUES leaders, officials from Songjiang District Sports Bureau, heads of sports departments from neighboring universities in the university town, as well as representatives from various faculties, along with staff, gathered together.



Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, officially declared the opening of the sports meet.



President Yu Tao delivered a welcoming speech, extending a warm reception to the guests and expressing gratitude towards the faculty and students involved in organizing the event. He reviewed and summarized the outstanding achievements of the University's sports work over the past year. SUES’ sports work has yielded satisfactory results in several aspects including curriculum development, recreational sports, competitive sports, physical fitness, sports culture, and sports resources. He extended congratulations and gratitude to the teachers and students who have contributed.


SUES strives to shape the sports meet into a grand event with distinctive engineering characteristics, a sense of the times, and youthful charm. It aims to promote the spirit of sports, advance the youth arena enriched with sports, and enhance campus culture. President Yu encouraged everyone to showcase their athletic prowess, foster friendships, achieve personal bests, and celebrate their youth. He concluded with well wishes for the success of the event.

As the rousing music filled the air, representatives from various Schools marched into the arena, led by formations bearing the national and university flags and bouquets. The processions, each proudly chanting their slogans, demonstrated their spirit and enthusiasm, garnering applause from the attendees.


Athletes and referees pledged to compete with vigor and judge fairly, committed to reflecting SUES’ strong spirit throughout the sports meet.


Following the ceremony, nearly 600 teachers and students engaged in a lively competition across 48 track and field and fun events, displaying fierce and thrilling performances.





This sports meet not only aims to promote the spirit of sportsmanship and enrich the university culture but also to embrace physical wellness as a fashionable campus lifestyle, enhance the overall physical strength of SUES community, and propel the robust growth of the University’s sports programs.
