On the morning of October 19, the 2024 International Songjiang Symposium on Railway Noise and Vibration Control, hosted by Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), and co-organized by Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Urban Railway Transportation, and Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Railway Vibration and Noise Control, was held at SUES. More than 200 experts and scholars from enterprises, universities, and research institutions in China, the UK, France, Belgium, and other countries and regions attended the symposium.
Professor Yu Tao, President of SUES, attended the symposium and delivered a welcome speech. Other distinguished guests included Professor Cheng Li, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Professor David Thompson from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton, UK; Professor Geert Degrande from the Department of Civil Engineering at KU Leuven, Belgium; Senior Engineer Maliczak Christophe Olivier from CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd.; as well as Professors Sheng Xiaozhen and Wang Anbin from SUES. Representatives from various functional departments, along with faculty and student representatives from School of Urban Railway Transportation, also participated in the forum. The opening ceremony was chaired by Liu Zhigang, Dean ofSchool of Urban Railway Transportation.
During his speech, President Yu Tao warmly welcomed all the guests and emphasized three key points. First, he expressed his gratitude, thanking those who had attended last year's Songjiang Symposium and returned again this year, while also welcoming the new experts, faculty, and students joining the event. Second, he shared the significant breakthroughs SUES has made over the past year, including achievements in Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching review and the classification evaluation of applied technology universities in Shanghai. Professors Sheng Xiaozhen, Wang Anbin, and other experts from School of Urban Railway Transportation have made critical contributions to the development of SUES' doctoral programs. Lastly, he expressed his expectations, hoping that more universities, enterprises, and scholars in the field of railway noise and vibration control will join SUES' platform, sharing resources with domestic and international partners, such as Shanghai Shentong Metro Group. He also expressed his hope that the Songjiang Symposium would expand its influence, extending from Shanghai to China and the global stage.
Professor Sheng Xiaozhen, Chair of the Organizing Committee of this international symposium and a professor of School of Urban Railway Transportation, gave an overview of this year's symposium on behalf of the committee. Professor Sheng explained the purpose behind establishing the Songjiang Symposium last year and introduced the main features of this year's event. Experts from 16 universities and 14 enterprises, both domestic and international, registered for the symposium. The topics covered cutting-edge technologies, including acoustic black holes, machine learning, data-driven modeling, and intelligent monitoring.
The symposium spanned two days, featuring academic presentations by 21 experts. This event plays a significant role in promoting academic exchanges on vibration and noise reduction in railway transportation, enhancing China's influence in this field, and boosting the international visibility of SUES.
