To further implement the SUES' “Strengthening SUES through Talent” strategy and provide robust talent support for its high-quality development, SUES held the 2024 International Young Scholars Forum on November 22 in the second lecture hall of the Graphic Information Center. With the theme “Interdisciplinary Integration to Address Change, Inheritance and Innovation to Shape the Future”, the Forum brought together over 100 outstanding young scholars from more than 20 world-renowned universities, including Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the University of Groningen, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, both online and offline. The Forum was attended by Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES committee; Xu Kaiyu, Vice President; and Lu Lili, Second-Level Investigator from the Talent Affairs Office of CPC Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Committee. Zhang Yuqing, Director of the Human Resources Office, chaired the forum.
On behalf of SUES, Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES committee, extended a warm welcome to the guests and young scholars from home and abroad. He introduced SUES’ three major strategies and emphasized SUES’ unprecedented need for talent. He highlighted SUES’ commitment to deepening reforms in the talent development system and mechanisms and advancing the strategy of strengthening SUES through talent with greater determination. Li Jiang sincerely invited young scholars to join SUES, realize their grand aspirations, and achieve remarkable accomplishments.
Vice President Xu Kaiyu delivered a keynote speech titled “Gathering Talent to Address Change, Embracing Inheritance and Innovation for the Future”. She summarized SUES' achievements in personnel and talent-related work in recent years, focusing on institutional positioning, talent policies, and support and guarantees for talent. She also demonstrated SUES’ proactive integration into the development of high-level talent clusters and its new deployments to deepen the strategy of talent-driven development in the new era.
Investigator Lu Lili extended warm congratulations on the successful Forum, acknowledged SUES’ remarkable progress in recent years, and highlighted major breakthroughs in its talent initiatives. She introduced Shanghai’s mechanisms for talent cultivation and recruitment, as well as the comprehensive support and guarantees provided for academic talent. She expressed her hope that SUES would seize the opportunity presented by the Forum to strengthen its talent team and boost leapfrog development.
Distinguished Professor Jin Jide gave a keynote speech titled “The Changing Landscape and New Opportunities in the Semiconductor Industry”. Dr. Zhang Linli, a representative of young talent, shared his overseas academic experience and detailed his work, life, and significant achievements at SUES. He encouraged like-minded young scholars to join SUES’ talent development platform.
The Forum featured three sub-forums on “Artificial Intelligence”, “New Engineering in Materials, Chemical Engineering, and Textiles”, and “Marxist Studies”. Discipline leaders from related schools engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges with participating scholars on key issues in their respective research fields. The Forum successfully focused on attracting potential young talent, fostering platforms for exchange, building bridges for collaboration, and bringing vitality and new momentum to SUES’ leapfrog development.
