On December 20th, College of International Education held a “Guess the Lantern Riddles” event on the fifth floor of Industry-Education Integration Building. The event incorporated elements of China's intangible cultural heritage alongside aspects of various other cultures, attracting active participation from both faculty and students. The atmosphere at the event was lively and engaging.
In the lead-up to the event, students handcrafted traditional paper lanterns in class, experiencing the unique charm of China’s intangible cultural heritage. They then wrote classic riddles from their own countries beneath the lanterns, adding a multicultural dimension to the activity. During the lantern riddle event, participants not only solved traditional Chinese lantern riddles but also attempted to crack riddles from different countries, experiencing a fascinating cultural exchange.
During the activity, the students were highly enthusiastic, focusing not only on solving the riddles but also actively engaging in discussions about their respective cultural backgrounds. A student from Thailand remarked, “This event was very meaningful. I not only learned about Chinese culture but also got to know the fun aspects of other countries’ cultures through the riddles.” A Chinese student also commented, “We not only experienced traditional intangible heritage but also deepened our understanding of world cultures through the riddles.”
This event not only helped students learn Chinese and gain insights into Chinese culture through interactive participation, but also provided a platform for cross-cultural exchange between Chinese and international students, showcasing the unique charm of international education. In the future, College of International Education will continue to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning through a variety of engaging activities, advancing the practice of the concept of a shared human future.
