On the afternoon of December 31, the 2025 New Year’s Reception was held on the 19th floor of the Administration Building. SUES leadership, along with heads of schools and colleges, were all in attendance. Teacher and student representatives who have made outstanding contributions to the university’s development were also invited to the event.
At the reception, Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, delivered an inspiring New Year’s address. He looked back on the remarkable achievements of SUES over the past year and extended heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to leadership at all levels, friends from various industries, alumni at home and abroad, and faculty members and students who have supported SUES and advanced the university’s development. Looking ahead, SUES will thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the National and Shanghai Education Conferences, leading and uniting faculty and students in further deepening reform comprehensively.
Zhu Xiaoqing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, presented the Baosteel Education Fund Excellent Teacher Award to the laureates. Meng Xing, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, presented awards to awardees of the Shanghai Model Worker Innovation Studio. Vice President Xu Yang presented the Challenge Cup Silver Award to the winners, and Vice President Wang Yansong presented the Dedication Cup Silver Award. Vice Presidents Xia Chunming and Xu Kaiyu, together with university leader Shi Jianyong, presented the Outstanding Social Donation Contribution Gold and Silver Awards to the winners. Professor Wang Anbin from School of Urban Railway Transportation and Professor Liu Xintian from School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering shared their successful stories of application of accredited doctoral programs. Professor Hubin from School of Management Studies and Professor Lu Na from School of Materials Science and Engineering delivered remarks as faculty representatives.
The New Year’s reception featured a variety of brilliant performances, including the chorus “The Motherland Will Not Forget”, an original song “Ignite Your Youthful Dreams” and rap show “To New Manufacturing, Chasing the Light,” dances such as “Pomegranate Blossoms”, a song titled “Blooming”, as well as a string quartet rendition of “The Dance of the Golden Snake”. Other highlights included poetry recitations of “Qinyuan Chun Changsha” and “Qing Ping Yue Village Abode” by international students, a Chinese dance “Prosperity in Bloom”, a cheongsam show “Straw Hat Dance: Ancient Rhythms of Pingyao”, and an etiquette performance titled “Youth Blooming towards Aviation Dreams”, and a dance “Lotus Picking”. Additional performances such as “Ode to plum blossoms” by Cheng Yun Opera Society, a vocal solo “I Love You, China”, and folk music “Joyful Celebration” were received with hearty rounds of applause. Last but not least, an interactive calligraphy show added a festive atmosphere and earned warm applause from teachers and student present.
The complete success of the New Year’s reception is a fitting conclusion of SUES’ notable achievements in 2024, ushering in a new chapter for the coming year. SUESers, both faculty and students, are poised to embrace the new year in high spirits and looking forward to working toward building a top-tier, internationally renowned university of modern engineering.
