On February 25, a delegation from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), led by the president, Professor Waldemar Berg, visited SUES. Li Jiang, Chairman of the University Council of SUES, and Xia Chunming, Vice President of SUES, welcomed the guests, with Xia Chunming presiding over the meeting.

Li Jiang extended a warm welcome to Professor Waldemar Berg and his delegation. Li emphasized that the Shanghai Education Conference has set new requirements for the development of application-oriented universities. In response, SUES is implementing an Open Cooperation strategy, deepening educational reforms, and aligning talent cultivation with industry demands. Li Jiang noted that DIT’s Technology Campus model, which promotes regional economic development, serves as a valuable reference. Li Jiang proposed three key initiatives for future collaboration. The first is to deepen Specialized Cooperation and Creating Benchmark Projects, strengthen joint training programs in mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence, and expedite the first cohort of 2+2 dual-degree students to study in Germany. The second is to expand Consortium Collaboration and Establishing Long-Term Mechanisms, leverage the Sino-German University Consortium for International Cooperation (SGUCIC) (German: Chinesisch-Deutsches Hochschulkonsortium für Internationale Kooperation,CDHIK) to build a sustainable exchange mechanism. And the third is to foster an Innovation Ecosystem and Leading Educational Transformation, and co-establish a technology transfer center, develop a Sino-German dual-certification curriculum, and create a comprehensive talent-to-industry incubation chain.

Professor Waldemar Berg expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome and responded positively to the cooperation proposals. He praised SUES’ achievements in industry-education integration and looked forward to sharing DIT’s Technology Campus experience. He also expressed interest in enhancing collaboration in mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, and faculty-student exchanges, as well as promoting joint research for long-term and pragmatic cooperation.

Xia Chunming stated that as the chair institution of CDHIK, SUES will take the lead in benchmarking of programs and support more disciplines in aligning with international standards through Germany’s ASIIN accreditation system, contributing to Sino-German higher education collaboration. During the discussions, both parties reached multiple agreements on establishing an HSK test center, expanding the 2+2 dual-degree program, developing a professor exchange mechanism, and conducting joint research and technology transfer.

In the afternoon, Professor Berg delivered a special lecture on DIT’s Technology Campus model and its advanced industry-education-research integration experience. He systematically explained the logic of enterprise-driven research, practice-driven teaching, sparking enthusiastic discussions among faculty members at SUES.

The delegation also visited School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, School of Air Transportation, and School of Art and Design, engaging in discussions on potential cooperation in mechanical engineering and industrial design. This visit further strengthened the friendship between the two universities. Looking ahead, both institutions will work together towards the goal of establishing a Sino-German Engineering Education Model, ushering in a new chapter of international cooperation in application-oriented education.

Heads from the International Office, Academic Affairs Office, External Relations Office, School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Art and Design, College of International Education, and the Sino-German Industry-Education Integration Research Institute, attended the meeting.
